Booked the barcelo isla canela through tui and paid for an upgraded room so was expecting something quite special as we've stayed in other barcelo hotels.

I booked a room for myself, wife and 11 month old baby. When we were shown our room it was so small we couldn't move around in it so went to speak to reception.

The lady at reception basicly told us that that is the room we paid for but after persisting she said she had 2 rooms that see would show us that we could move into if we wanted. Both the other rooms were exactly the same as what we had already although one smelt like someone had been smoking in it. We declined these two rooms and decided to speak to to tui rep. She come to the room and agreed that it wasn't adequate for 2 adults and a baby.

We all went to speak to the management of the hotel and the rep agreed that that was the room that we had paid for so had gone against what she had said to us in our room and was now agreeing with the hotel. The only thing that was done was they took out some furniture that freed up a little room.

The food in the hotel is very good with a great selection for all, the only negative I would say is that dinner starts at 8pm which we found to be quite late.

Its easy to get a sun bed in the morning which is nice but the swimming pools are freezing cold so we couldn't put our baby into the water. When we mentioned this to management they basicly said that there was an indoor pool that we could use which is warmer. I could have stayed at home and not bothered getting on a plane if thats what we was planning on doing.

The hotel have a 1 hour sunbed policy where if you do not return to your sunbed they will take your property away. We as a family of 8 went for lunch each day and on one occasion came back 5mins after the allocated time to find people on our sunbeds and half of our personal belongings taken. When speaking to management they advised this was their policy but we advised we had only gone to thw snack bar which is located by the pool and that is how long they took to serve us, but once again management was not very helpful.

There is a beautiful beach a short walk out the back of the hotel with lovely beach bars and resturants which is well worth going to see and the sea is much warmer than the hotel pools.
