The great legend of Masca and Pedro Alvarez. Many years ago, a young boy named Pedro lived in the village of Masca, hidden among the inaccessible rocks of Tenerife. His passion was exploring the sky-high rocks surrounding the village. While climbing, he discovered the entrance to the cave located high above the ground. When Masca was once again threatened by a pirate attack, Pedro hid the inhabitants in the cave thanks to a personally made rope ladder. When the pirates appeared - they were unable to climb to the small and easily defensible entrance to the cave - and the inhabitants survived. When Pedro turned 20, he led the villagers to successfully attack a pirate ship docked at the foot of the rocks - while his crew searched unsuccessfully for the inhabitants of the Masca. The few pirates aboard were killed and the village acquired pirate loot. Residents attacked pirate ships several times, until the fame of the invincible village frightened them away forever. Pedro was elected the village mayor, and as a sign of gratitude, the inhabitants placed a huge medallion on the rock, depicting the heroic Pedro with his dog sitting at his feet - the symbol of the Canary Islands. We heard this legend while sitting in a picturesque restaurant in Masca, drinking excellent baraquito (Canary specialty - delicious and beautiful-looking coffee, consisting of several different layers) and admiring the gap at our feet through the open windows and in the distance the visible entrance to the cave and visible in the distance, on the rock a medallion. Today, you can reach the village of Masca through the serpentines of a narrow road that winds its way through the mountains, or from a tiny sea harbor hidden among the Los Gigantes cliffs, by a very strenuous march, through a very picturesque gorge running up the hill, all the way to this village located at an altitude of 600 m above sea level. You can also get to Masca by bus (!) And after a difficult 3-hour descent to the sea, sail away with one of the numerous excursion boats arriving there. Visit Masca - it's a...

Read moreMasca Valley is truly one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with dramatic cliffs, lush greenery, and winding roads that feel like a step back in time. Even the road leading into Masca is an adventure in itself — with incredible viewpoints at every turn, it’s worth taking your time to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
When you arrive, you’ll find a small but charming area with a restaurant where you can enjoy a meal while admiring the panoramic valley views. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, and it feels like you’re far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There’s also a beautiful church nearby, adding a touch of history and culture to the visit. I was lucky enough to hear local musicians playing near the big tree in the square, which made the whole experience even more magical.
One thing to keep in mind is transportation. The buses to Masca Valley do not run frequently, and they are quite small, so they can fill up quickly. I recommend planning your travel times carefully or considering alternative transport if possible.
