It is a bell tower that was originally an Islamic minaret (Alminar) and later converted during the Christian period. The minaret, which was used to announce Islamic prayer times, was built in 951 under the orders of Abderramán III and reached a height of 40 meters. In 1236, after Córdoba was conquered by Christian forces, the minaret was transformed into a Catholic cathedral bell tower. In the 16th century, a major renovation was carried out under the orders of Charles V, incorporating the Baroque style seen today. By the late 17th century, the tower took on its current architectural form, with bells installed for Christian religious ceremonies. The tower stands at approximately 54 meters, making it one of the tallest structures in Córdoba, offering panoramic views of the city from the top. Inside the tower, remnants of the original minaret can still be seen, including horseshoe arches and geometric decorations, preserving elements of the original Islamic...

The cathedral with its compound and bell tower are beautiful and absolutely worth a visit. You can enter the courtyard for free, from where you will require two tickets. One for the cathedral and one for the bell tower.

When it comes to the bell tower, you will be allocated to a specific entry time. Unlike any other touristic attraction we have visited, you have to be there sharp on time, or even 10 minutes in advance. Otherwise you will be rudely denied access without any possibility for refund or rebooking. We arrived there 9 minutes late from our visit of the cathedral and were harshly turned away.

It is apparently a one way staircase and only 3€ per person, but communication on the website and friendliness of the staff on site need to be drastically improved in this regard. Reading past reviews there have been many similar upsets like ours. The experience with the bell tower has been our single bad experience...

Clock tower of Cordoba Cathedral. Entrance to the cathedral square and gardens is free. Going up to the tower and entering the cathedral for a fee. Entrance to the tower costs 5 euros per person. It is possible and desirable to purchase on the website beforehand, it will help you in the queues on the website itself. The ascent to the tower is from 09:30 to 18:30, also depending on the season. Each round is half an hour. Arrive at the place 5 minutes before, since each round is exact, one round leaves and the next one immediately enters. The climb is reasonable and there are 3 stops along the way. At every stop you can see the view from the tower. At the end of the time you will be transferred to the next floor. At the end of the time you will have to go down so that the next round goes up in time. The view is stunning, it is highly recommended to go up and...

Entrance to this bell tower is from the gate under the tower itself. You can buy ticket online (recommended) as its always crowded, and number of visitors every half an hour or hour , is limited. Its a separate ticket from the one to Mosque-Cathedral and cost 3 Euro. Visit is as a group with guard opening the door to the terrace on the first stop to take some photos and enjoy the view, and then climbing up to the bells. There is one more climb up to the highest place possible to visit, but I didn't get there, actually didn't find the way from some reason. But I can say it was good enough view from the bells platform for me. On the way down the lower terrace is closed already. Whole visit is about 30min, if you need to calculate the time and have a ticket also for Mosque-Cathedral. Overall, nice view, but that's it.
