Originally constructed with 17 arches, it was designed with a robust stone structure reflecting the engineering techniques of the time. During the Umayyad rule between the 8th and 13th centuries, the bridge underwent reconstruction and reinforcement, with fortified structures added for defensive purposes. After Córdoba was conquered by Christian forces in 1236, the bridge was renovated several times, incorporating Renaissance and Baroque influences. The bridge’s current appearance primarily reflects the renovations carried out in the 14th and 16th centuries. I wanted to share with you my experience visiting the beautiful bridge during our recent tour. The history surrounding it is truly remarkable, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as we crossed it.

Although our tour only allowed us to cross the bridge, I discovered that the inside of the tower is equally fascinating and definitely worth exploring further. The views from the top must be stunning, and I now regret not taking the time to climb up and admire the surroundings.

The sight of the río Guadalquivir flowing beneath the bridge added to the charm of the whole experience. Despite the slightly chilly weather, the clear blue sky and peek of sun made the day even more enjoyable.

I highly recommend taking the time to explore the tower on your next visit. I believe it will offer a different perspective and enhance your overall experience of this historical site.
