We were excited to learn about cheese production. However I need to say that visit is not worth it. Just from the start we received tablets with English explanation - fine. Half of the group were foreigners but the guide didn’t say a word of explanation in English (only instruction which part to click or where are we going now). The space in the cave is very limited and the group is too large for that. In that case people at the back (most cases foreigners) don’t see the exhibition itself. When Spanish guy pointed that some people couldn’t see because they are behind the wall our guide told him ‘don’t worry, they have tablets’. But when the guide was moving from one part to another she was switching the light off so you didn’t have time even to see it. Whole visit was very rushed, she spoke very fast without much interaction. The information in your tablet was very basic - those information you can easily find in Internet, the things added by the guide - those are informations you would like to hear, but again only in Spanish (reminder half of the group are foreigners, she spoke very good English). At the end you get to taste the cheese and drink cider as well as watch movie summarising the visit - we got some information from there with subtitles but again rather basic things. When we were moving from tasting room other group was already waiting to come in.
NOT RECOMMENDED, ESPECIALLY FOR FOREIGNERS CAUSE...
Read moreNot only is the Cabrales Cheese Cave an interesting experience, it's setting is stunning. The cave is set next to a beautiful river. As you stand on the bridge looking down, the water is crystal clear, and in deep pools in places, while the rest of the river rushes on rumbling over the rocks. You have to book a tour time, and we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings before beginning the tour. We were there at a quiet time of year so had the cave to ourselves. The tour actually follows the cave, and although the tour is given in Spanish, you are given your own tablet so you can listen in English too. The guide shows you the full process of how the cheese is made from beginning to end, whilst touring through the small cave system. You can see all the old implements that were originally used to make the cheese, and all details and processes are explained step by step. The tour ends with a cheese tasting and cider tasting, and it was a very interesting and...
Read moreReal disappointment. We asked if the tour will be in English. Yes, you will receive an information in English to read.
The guide can speak English but doesn’t do it. 40% of the visitors of our group were foreigners. All reading common stuff about cheese making, things you know or can read online. It doesn’t correspond the story the guide is telling and showing. All the time you just do not know what it is all about. The groups are too full so you all do not fit in the room. Very disappointing.
At the end we told the guide that it is not a good tour for foreigners and we were disappointed. She said: I know, I know, it is true. We know this. So it is a known problem but they just do not care. Shame. So if you do not speak Spanish. Do not take the tour. You will feel set up. It is only about...
