Not sure what I was expecting, but it was not what is in this chapel (in a good way!) Visit this place! You will not regret it. I won't blow the secret or post pics of the chapel, so you can be wowed like me. But just know, it is worth it. Finding the entrance is a little tricky. From the main courtyard you need to go in the building just to the right of the big entrance to the chapel (if you are looking at the chapel straight on). From there, take a left, go up the little ramp and go through the door that says EMPUJAR -means push in Spanish, I had to look it up. There is the ticket office, and the previously mentioned grumpy clerk. Don't let that scowl fool you, or deter you. Start the tour on the right, going through all the other incredible rooms - bare, but amazing old art and artifacts, truly incredible you can get this close to some of them. You will end up doing the chapel last. The chapel will blow your...
Read moreWaiting in line for 40 min to get in while already having brought an ticket online, the 2 people at the counter were slow and absolutely inefficient. The women is behind the counter is like the cashier for the tickets, while the man just stands there doing absolutely nothing, I asked him whether there was another line for people with tickets and he took a look at my tickets and said I had to wait for the lady, so with the thought that she might have to scan them it is very reasonable, until it was our turn, the lady took just one look and let us through, so my question is what exactly have I been waiting in line for so long? Why were there not 2 separate lines for people with and without tickets?
I took longer waiting than being in the monastery, it’s a beautiful monastery, but not very well kept/preserved, and the paintings are in a quiet dark room, so you can’t see them that...
Read morePay the little price for ticket entrance, it absolutely deserves it. Begin your visit in counterclockwise order, going on your right when you reach the first cloister. In this way, you will live your visit like in a climax: you will think to have waste your money and your time, just to take a look to apparently valueless pictures or forniture. Then you will become aware of little details, like the tombs of the former friars, who lie just under your feet, all around the cloister. They are still there, quiet and silent. Eventually, you will reach the church and you will be hit by an explosion of colours. The church is simply incredible, you will spend some minutes with an open mouth and the head pointed to the fine decored ceiling.
This was one of the best place to see in...
