Ignore the gossip about avoiding tourist trap beaches or resort areas as El Médano Playa Leocadio was awesome. At first it doesn't look promising but as you venture closer to Montaña Roja you will find it gets quieter and less populated. Midday weekdays are best time to go, there's no shower facilities at the far end but it's no big deal as you only have to walk a few minutes to the more populated area to find them along with many stores including windsurfing stores, restaurants, and boutiques. The water and beach is clean and clear with striped black and gold sand. Perfect spot to sun bathe the cool down sea bathe and repeat. The kite beach is not so big, so get informed about the areas to kite by the kite Centers or general info in the ElMedano kite club web site. The big advantage of why so many watersports enthusiasts come to El medano because it’s sunny nearly all year around with approx 300 days a year with wind. There are also a several bars/restaurants situated near the kite area so to be able to watch others as you take a rest from the...

There is plenty of space for setup. In October I was kitesurfing just in Lycra and board-shorts and it was warm enough however some people were in wetsuits.
Wind was side/on shore. Water was waved. Spot rather for advanced and semi-advanced riders.
There is no parking place next to the beach. You will have to leave the car in town (where parking places are very limited) and take 15 min walk or you can leave the car at the parking near Montana Roja (and take a...
