Lloret de Mar es una visita obligatoria a este monumento que se ha convertido en un emblema para una ciudad relacionada con el mar de principio a fin; la historia del lugar está completamente ligada al Mar Mediterráneo y la Dona Marinera no podía ser menos; su significado, su tradición, e incluso su propio nombre están inseparablemente ligados con el punto hacia donde mira; el océano cristalino que baña el Levante Español. Toda la bahía de Lloret desde el acantilado en el que se sitúa; mientras tocaban con su mano el pie derecho de la Dona Marinera, y es que según cuenta la tradicional leyenda en torno a la estatua; quien lo hace mirando al horizonte y pide un deseo lo ve cumplido. Realidad o ficción, no deja de ser una brillante historia que no hace más que otorgar más magia a la localidad; yo piqué la curiosidad por comprobarlo. La también conocida como la Venus de Lloret; está hecha de bronce por Ernest Maragall y mide aproximadamente 2,4 metros; un gran monumento dedicado a un gran colectivo: las mujeres marineras que se quedaban en tierra a cargo de sus familias; mientras sus maridos viajaban a América para buscar sustento; por este motivo la estatua se alza sobre las orillas del Mediterráneo con un gesto de despedida o recibimiento. Una de las cosas que más impresiona de esta obra es que si ya de por sí es espectacular y tiene un profundo significado; su situación, su entorno y el recorrido que hay que hacer para llegar hasta ella no tienen prácticamente nada que envidiarle. La Venus de Lloret está ubicada en el trayecto de una vía que también es histórica en la comarca de La Selva; conocido como el Camino de Ronda y que recorre las orillas de todas las playas del litoral lloretense formando parte de grandes rutas de senderismo. El monumento de la Dona Marinera (mujer marinera) es una visita obligada para cualquiera que venga a visitar Lloret. Se encuentra en un mirador del camino de ronda que recorre la costa de la localidad, exactamente entre la extensa y céntrica playa de Lloret de Mar y la rocosa y encantadora Cala Banys. Lloret siempre ha sido una localidad caracterizada por la vida marinera, y este monumento lo representa a la perfección. No tantos años atrás, el mar era la fuente de ingresos de los habitantes de Lloret y las mujeres debían esperar en tierra firme la finalización de la jornada de sus maridos, los cuales se adentraban día tras día al mar para poder dar de comer a sus familias. A veces se marchaban unos días, otras veces unos meses y otras, ni llegaban a volver… Como homenaje a estas mujeres que se quedaban en tierra cuidando de sus hijos mientras sufrían por sus maridos, en 1966 se construyó este precioso monumento de la mano de Ernest Maragall. El monumento mide 2,40 metros y el brazo derecho de la mujer se encuentra alzado simbolizando el adiós a su marido y, al mismo tiempo, su brazo izquierdo, se encuentra flexionado hacia delante con la mano semiabierta, simbolizando el deseo de regreso. De esta manera, el significado de la posición de la mujer es “adiós y vuelve pronto”. La tradición dice que quien toca el pie izquierdo mientras mira al horizonte verá los sueños en los que piense en ese mismo instante hechos realidad algún día.
