A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Málaga: The Glass Museum

If you’re visiting Málaga and looking for a truly special experience, the Museum of Glass and Crystal is an absolute must. It’s not your typical museum, it’s a personal, warm, and culturally rich adventure, especially when guided by the museum’s very own founder and owner of the villa that hosts it.

📜 A Tour That Feels Like a Conversation with a Passionate Friend A visit with the owner as your guide is more than just a walk through displays – it feels like an interactive storytelling session. Every piece comes with stories filled with humor, history, and family anecdotes that turn the glass objects into soulful works of art.

🧠 True Expertise with a Bohemian Twist The guide is a true expert in art and glass history, but what makes him unique is his mix of deep knowledge and a relaxed, bohemian spirit. This unconventional combination brings charm and ease to the entire visit. He is the most upper class self proclaimed hippie I have ever met.

🔮 A Museum That Tells Personal Stories Each item is connected to the founder’s life and family, and you can feel it in the way they’re presented – with warmth, wit, and passion. From antique stained glass to unique decorative pieces, everything draws you into a fascinating world of craftsmanship and refinement.

📍The Glass Museum of Málaga proves that art takes on a whole new meaning when shared with passion. Go for the glass. Stay for...

We wanted to visit this museum because of the rave reviews about the collection. But we were a bit surprised that nobody in the neighbourhood seemed to know about it (Malagans). Anyway, when we finally got there a man behind the desk (perhaps the owner that reviews seemed so positive about) seemed interested enough in our presence. When we asked how come locals did not know of the museum he explained that it is private. But i was surprised that another man (Anglophone) said twice within 3 minutes of our arrival that we should sit down outside and be quiet and he would start a tour in 5 minutes. Anyway, I paid the entrance fee and went out. By then the "guide" was with my wife and our son (who had not said a word up to that point). The Guide then started, not by saying hello, but by pontificating like a medieval priest saying "before we begin, we have some rules for children". At that point I decided that I did not want to visit the collection. When I told the man behind the desk that the guide was rather rude, to my surprise, he explained that well, he is an old man. I told him that notwithstanding, if they run a museum, their guide should be trained in some...

Colore, forme, utilizzi e molta ARTE!

🇬🇧 Glass, a material sometimes fragile, sometimes hard and dense as rock. Mouldable with the force of fire; ready to collect what the artist, the alchemist, the technician, wants to instil in it... colour, form, mood, history and also and always... mystery. The 'Museo del Vidrio y Cristal de Málaga' is, without a doubt, unique. A collection of works ranging from the 6th century to the present day. Colour, shapes, uses and a lot of ART! The exhibits are lovingly laid out in a patiently restored 18th-century casket: a splendid mansion known as the 'Posada de San Felipe Neri'. Each work a story to be read in the often hidden but revealing details. The pieces are often displayed and contextualised in precious period furniture of marvellous workmanship from noble houses linked to the high aristocracy throughout Europe related to the owner and host of the Museum, Gonzalo Fernández-Prieto. A must-visit museum! In the quiet barrio de San Felipe Neri, in this beautiful Málaga! The visit is always guided and otherwise it would be impossible to grasp all the historical and artistic details of the works on display,......

The museum of glass and crystal is one of the most attractive in Malaga. The private collection of Gonzalo is considered as old and modern at the same time. The museum is situated in a developing but ancient part of Malaga. This typical local two-storeyed building is some centuries old. The museum is devided in thematic spaces and the furniture and pictures reflect a definite period. The patio is in plants and flowers. In the spacy hall before Christmas they put Belen consisting on precious sculptures of the prominent Spanish brand Lladro. About this and all other stories connecting to the vases, glasses, jars you will be explained in three languages - Spanish, French, English. The tours are guided. The owner tries to keep special atmosphere and restored the building as more authentic as possible. Everything is made with love. And you feel it. You can see the light play of crystal and sometimes even its 'singing'. By the way in the garden of the museum music is quite often to here. Here some simphonic concerts and opera singing take place. Sometimes the hall serves for different events as well as famous dinners. The plates and glasses are of the top quality.
