A fascinating little village, you could imagine this village as it was a hundred years ago, apart from the ingress of cars and satellite dishes it probably hasn't changed a great deal... If you are able it's worth making your way to the top of the hill (Castell) a great view awaits you there in all directions, with the sea to the south and the mountains to the north west and the hills extending into the distance in other directions. At the very top of the hill you'll find a cemetery dating way back to the 1800's and before, with the majority of the tombs now empty it's a look into the past of how important their dead were. Just down from the top of the hill you'll find a little place to stop off for a drink or tapas, sandwiches, etc. The tiny streets are amazing and you can imagine how the majority of residents probably didn't leave the village for the most of their lives. Worth a visit if just for the views. Whilst there is a tiny car park nr the top of the hill you'll need a tiny vehicle to reach it with very narrow streets, some only a metre and a half wide don't say you weren't warned ! Easier to park further down and walk up, several car parks are signed as you enter the town central area, becoming harder to access the...

Later, one of the lucky heirs to that wealth would inherit the 'worst' land: plots lower doen the valley and near infertile beachfronts that nobody wanted - usually the least able or least capable sons would inherit such lands. Lucky for them, those plots are now at the heart and center of Benidorm, where centuries afterwards those beachfront plots are now the soils upon which a different kind of...
Read moreThere is a wonderful view from the top of the castel. And if you want a cup of coffee or something to eat ,don't hesitate to ask Maya, the owner of the little restaurant there. She is very helpful and listens to her customers. The prices are more than reasonable. We were a group of 25 people and went there the first time for a coffee and the day after for a lunch. She asked us what we wanted and prepared it. Everything was very tasty. She is from Georgia, and as some of the members of my group, have already visited her country, we asked Maya to prepare for the lunch Georgian khachapuri, salads and meat. I absolutely recommend the place. And want to thank once again Maya for the special moments...
