If I could put 0 stars I would.
If you're a student, I advise you to go elsewere (if possible)
The administration do not care about the students, and it is even worse for exchange students. They do not communicate. On anything. They do not respond to emails, or send any information. Last February the classes were supposed to start in person but they didn't :) no one told the exchange students that the classes would be starting online. Most of the teachers I have had were incompetent and above all, not willing to actually work on their class, answer questions or adapt their class to a virtual alternative. The classes were boring at best but mostly useless. I expected nothing and I am still disapointed.
Another fun fact was that, while selecting the classes you want to attend to, they do not specify the language in which it is taught. First of all, why? Second of all, don't be surprised if you end up in a class taught in Valencian, which will be impossible to follow, especially if you already have dificulties understanding Spanish. And one last detail is that every class is open to exchange students. Even some who require having Spanish as your mother tongue. The teachers do not care if you don't understand their class, it's your problem.
The worst is that at the end of the semester they organized the exams in person. People that never attended the classes physically were suddently expected to come on campus, gather in tiny rooms and do the exam? What about the health of the students? What about the students that could not be there physically at all? Well, unsurprisingly nothing was done. In this situation (may I remind you the pandemic was still very much a thing) they did not even consider doing anything to make the semester nor the exams more accessible. None of this is not acceptable.
And while I'm on the topic of accessibility: yes, they have an online platform for online classes and administration stuff. Most teachers do not use it (or not well). It is poorly translated into English, and then again, no one is there to explain how it even works.
The campus might be pretty, that's the only positive aspect about it, but it's also enormous, and people get lost all the time. Which should definitely be considered an issue at this point but it is not.
I didn't know a university of that size could be so chaotic and unorganized. I could go on and on about everything that is wrong...
Read moreThroughout my daughter being studying at University of Alicante, She have encountered several instances where professors appeared disengaged during lectures, often failing to respond to student inquiries or provide adequate support for coursework. I noticed that many students struggled with the material, yet the instructor did not offer additional help or resources.
She have also witnessed discriminatory behavior towards foreign students. For instance, during group projects, foreign students were often marginalized and excluded from discussions, which affected their academic performance and overall experience.
The lack of engagement from faculty has not only hindered her learning but has also created an environment where many students feel unsupported and undervalued. Furthermore, the discrimination faced by foreign students contributes to a hostile atmosphere that undermines diversity and inclusivity.
I believe that University of Alicante could greatly benefit from implementing mandatory training for faculty on cultural sensitivity and engagement strategies. Additionally, establishing support groups for international students would foster a more inclusive community.
In conclusion, I urge University of Alicante to address these critical issues concerning faculty engagement and discrimination against foreign students to enhance the educational...
