The drama begins at the beginning. The tee time of 9:30 a.m. organized by phone and then confirmed by the club manager himself when paying collides with the tee time of 9:30 a.m. received from three old members on the Internet. Great lamentation. We were ready on the teebox, so they boldly drive up. After a first hated (German) then reasonable agreement (Swiss) they let us play mercifully. Before that there was already a flight with 3 old Spanish gentlemen who absolutely didn't want to let us (fast-playing golfers) through. They then block us the whole round with ghastly golf. In the halfway house, the 2 flights sit in front of us, parleying. My partner politely asks if we could possibly play through. This was completely out of the question, we're told snippy. Both the men's and women's flights then play in the ditch. Everything too short. The forced break throws us even more out of rhythm. And they always leave buggies in front of the green and have to walk back like after putting. Unfortunately, many players still don't understand this. The car belongs behind the flag! Too bad. And at every hole we have to wait. My partner lies down on the grass to sunbathe. The course offers quite interesting golf. Only frustration: some blind deep ditches. Tee 17 and 18 from elevated teebox: fun. All in all: typical members' club with unrepentant pensioners. I've played 256 different courses so far: this one had the worst players of all. Better to avoid it.
Best part of the day: truly excellent food at the club house restaurant at...
Read moreVisited as a Sober Group of Golfers in November 2022. Never played before and it is very different to the other golf courses in Tenerife.
Reminds me of excellent parkland courses in the UK. Different climate and vegetation, obviously.
What is noticeably different [to the rest of the golf courses in Tenerife] are the employees. They smile, someone was there to greet us and open the entrance gates, professionals saying hello.
Recommending golf courses is very tricky as there are many variables, and we are all unique. Food + Beverage is surprisingly bad at all golf courses in Tenerife but this waiter did it with a smile + came with 🍰.
If it helps, i can play anywhere between 7 and 24. I played to 15 at Real Golf Club and the course was spectacular.
Playing independently, residents of the Canary Islands are eligible for a discount on golf fees. Visitors welcome. Prices on the Real GC website.
Alcohol is served at this golf course. From personal experience it is highly unlikely you will experience drunk beings. Marijuana is decriminalized in Tenerife, so for that reason, you may get the odd whiff.
Casa Salvia Icod is only 33km from Real Golf Club, Tenerife. Expect it to take 35 minutes by car.
Real Golf Club Tenerife was used as a venue for a dry sober golf tournament in 2022. Plans are in place for the next dry golf tournament May 2023. Real Golf Club will be a venue again.
Keep up the great work. Golf should be experienced with a 😁 . James y...
Read moreOne of the weirdest golf experiences I've had in a long time. First of all, there are numerous courses in Tenerife that offer a better value proposition as the course is only semi-well maintained. Second, there are a lot of members who do not appreciate foreigners playing their course, despite us speaking fluent Spanish. We had a very slow group of four high HCP players in front of us who didn't let us pass, even though we were only two players. The halfway house only accepts cash, which isn't written anywhere nor mentioned when ordering. The staff was relatively friendly but they also didn't try to make the experience worthwhile. Worst golf club in...
