Parque Central — Attraction in Valencia

It was a challenge watching them take 3 years to finish this (when it was finally started) with young kids, but I reckon it was just about worth the wait.

My kids were in the park every single day from the first day it opened. The chorros and ‘rivers’ are brilliant, it’s great that people are not allowed to let their dogs off the leash in most of the park and that they are a lot of people who look after it, and take their rubbish home, and keep their kids under control.

I will say that there is not enough shade for the summer months, and they wasted a huge opportunity with the play park and the total lack of installations it has. The paved area behind it is also a total waste of space that could have been used for basketball/football/tennis courts. I think I’ve seen a maximum of 4 people playing table tennis in all the years the park has been opened.

La Actuación Valencia Parque Central constituye, como operación ferroviaria y urbana, el proyecto de mayor trascendencia que acomete actualmente la ciudad de Valencia. Desde el punto de vista ferroviario, Valencia forma parte de la red de ciudades españolas conectadas por alta vvelocida y, cuando finalice esta actuación, contará con una mayor capacidad de servicios de ccercanías En la vertiente urbanística, gracias al soterramiento del ferrocarril, se recuperará una parte del centro de la ciudad con un nuevo parque de 244.000 m² y nuevos equipamientos públicos facilitando, además, la integración de barrios ahora divididos por el ferrocarril. Diseñado por la paisajista Kathryn Gustafson, el Parque Central de Valencia será un nuevo polo vertebrador de la ciudad y recuperará un espacio que hasta ahora la dividía en dos. La luz, el agua y el verde son los principales elementos de este gran parque urbano de 24 hectáreas.

Gracias a la planificación urbanística y al soterramiento del ferrocarril, Valencia recupera un espacio céntrico de destacadas dimensiones. Una actuación urbanística con metas tan notables como el cierre del ensanche histórico, la integración de barrios hasta ahora separados por las vías, el Parque Central, el Bulevar García Lorca y otras zonas de equipamientos educativos y sociales, así como más capacidad residencial y terciaria.

El Parque Central da nombre al conjunto de esta actuación. El proyecto de la paisajista Kathryn Gustafson contempla la urbanización de una zona de 63 hectáreas y tiene como elemento principal un enorme parque que será un pulmón verde de 244.000 m².

El proyecto cuenta para su redacción con un equipo de cuatro despachos profesionales: Gustafson Porter Ltd; Borgos Pieper Ltd; Nova Ingeniería y Gestión y Grupotec Servicios de Ingeniería.

From my impression, it feels a bit neglected, and walking there from the center isn’t very comfortable. There are lots of renovations around, everything covered in nets, which creates more of a feeling of endless construction than a relaxed walk. Part of the way we had to walk directly on the road because of the renovations. At the same time, the park has beautiful blooming flowers and stray cats wandering around 😅.
