One of the best shots of espresso I had in Valencia-- well balanced, full bodied and syrupy with a hint of fruit. Delicious croissants, too. They clearly know what they're doing when it comes to coffee. My server was very friendly and the outdoor patio, right next to a little park, was a wonderful place to enjoy my breakfast. So, 5 stars. But... I have to give them a little pushback on their slogan,"No wifi, No decaf, No BS," as it rubbed me the wrong way. The no wifi thing is totally fine. But, here's the thing about decaf... some people have health issues that don't allow them to consume caffeine. Even I, as a coffee fanatic, sometimes opt for decaf for certain reasons. And, some of the best, most well regarded specialty coffee shops in the world (many of which I've visited) source excellent, well roasted, swiss water processed decaf that rivals many caffeinated beans. So, calling decaf "BS" is, in itself, BS imo. If you don't want to take the time to find and source good decaf, that's fine. But, don't be ostracizing people with health issues with an arrogant slogan, just because you're not familiar with good decaf or don't want to buy a second grinder. That's all,...
Read moreMy visit to this popular café was a mix of expectations and surprising realities. As a coffee connoisseur, I ordered a flat white with oat milk, so my palate can discern the nuances of each ingredient. Unfortunately, the coffee I initially ordered was excessively acidic, to the point of being undrinkable. When I asked the staff, they suggested that the milk was the cause, which I found unusual. Although I agreed to change it for a latte, I was disappointed that they charged me for the new order, which is unusual in customer service in restaurants.
As for the toast, my experience was neutral. There was nothing particularly bad, but they also didn’t stand out. They were just plain toasts with cheese or other basic toppings, nothing out of the ordinary.
The highlight of this experience was, unfortunately, the service. A more understanding interaction and an effort to solve the problem would have made a big difference. I leave with mixed feelings: while the food was average, the coffee experience and the service left much...
Read moreI tried Los Picos Café on a Sunday morning. It was very busy with no open tables out in the terrace but some open spaces in the restaurant. The vibe of the inside of the restaurant was nice. They had great music playing and even though staff was working right behind where I sat, I did not find that uncomfortable. I sat at an open space and waited about 7 minutes to be served. A waitress then arrived and notified me that they were very busy and that if I wanted to order, it would take some time for me to receive it. I wasn’t in a rush so I told her I didn’t mind. I placed my order of a flat white and a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Tomato soup. I would say I wanted about 15 minutes to receive my coffee and sandwich. The coffee was very good and enjoyed it a lot. The grilled cheese was cheesy and crispy. It was very delicious. The tomato soup was ok. It’s actually more of a dipping sauce for your grilled cheese based on the portion they give you. Overall, I enjoyed time in Los Picos and would...
