Beautiful castle refurbished to funtion as hotel, the staff is incredibly friendly and kind, the food at the restaurant is one of the best in the whole town. The building itself is well maintained and incredibly decorated to back in the days of 18th century castle living with full of interesting art, armours, swords, hunting prizes on each of it walls, the furniture the rugs the lamps... Ot really takes you to medieval times. Everything its original so expect a funy smell of old book that more than make you feel uncomfortable sets the mood for you to want to stay in one of the foyers reading a book or just enjoying the moment! As much as the rustic rooms with fairly comfortable beds but conforting views, i particularly recomend the "superior" rooms or higher.
The hotel is located a little bit isolated from the city of O Barco De Valdeorras which is also a bit isolated from the big city life, which makes this place the perfect spot for decompression getaway! But consider that the city it self is 4miles from it and theres nothing to buy food or anything around the hotel. Also important to consider that isnt really a full Spa and needs to be paid even if your staying at the hotel so tale the precaution of ask first and make appointment for it. For the rest highly recommended place to stay on your way to madrid from this lovely...
Read moreWe got off the boat and it felt we were 'right in' the middle Vigo - we walked and walked at our own pace - we stopped had drinks/nibbles and even shopped a bit. We had lunch in a cafe within a small shopping arcade - it was 'So tasty' and very Authentic - we could have had 'Burgers a plenty' but wanted different - we had 'Vegetable Soup' and it was full of 'beans' - very filling. We had a lovely time in Vigo - we had looked at the 'what to do in Vigo' and we had 2 maps (why would they fill it full of numbers - you couldn't read the street names - the map was useless and the one from the ship was too faint to read!) Anyway we walked and we kept on stumbling across the 'must see!' items by accident - We took so many pictures - we would have kept going but it started to rain We would recommend Vigo as a place to visit - but give yourself some time to explore - we only had 6 hours but came back...

At first I couldn't see much of Vigo below due to the huge trees. Then as I gradually walked higher the view became better and better. I was here mid day on a Monday. There were a few people but overall it was a quiet place with nice little surprises around the corners beginning with the massive gates when i entered the fort. There are some fountains and beautiful flowers. I was even able to see the islands with that incredible sandy beach off in the distance. Wish I would have had more time to spend up at...
