Bodega Las Virtudes — Attraction in Villena

Definitely worth a visit! (Booking is advisable via email) This is our third visit with various family members and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Ana is an amazing tour guide and her English is excellent! She patiently explains each process from grapes to wine and olives to olive oil, it’s very interesting and all happens right inside the bodega, amazing. The tasting afterwards is relaxed and friendly with Ana again being an excellent teacher, she definitely knows her stuff. The wine, meat, cheese and olive oils are all delicious and the fondillon is very special. We couldn’t resist buying some wine and oils on the way out to enjoy at home, they are all very reasonably priced, the other staff member in the shop is equally as friendly and welcoming. I have been here 3 times now and would happily go again! I'm ashamed to say I used to put margarine on my toast. Not anymore! I was introduced to their olive oil and now I eat like a true Spaniard! It is mind-blowingly delicious and nothing like any olive oil you have ever tasted! Then there was the wines and the Fondillion. I was with a wine buff who told me this was the best Fondillion he had ever tasted. I'm not a fan of sweet wines but this is like Toffee apples. Superb! Ana made a good impression on us all. My partner always tips the glass towards the white table to see the colour and swills the first mouthful before drinking his wine. When he does that it always reminds me of that lovely afternoon at Las Virtudes. There's a bottle waiting for us when we go back to our home in Alicante to remember this...

We had a fantastic tour of the winery with Ana, whose English was excellent and was super knowledgeable. We had previously arranged a tour/tasting with another winery in the area, but after some appalling customer care we went for Las Virtudes given it's easy to walk from town. We couldn't be more pleased we changed! The wine tasting was superb and we learnt lots. Ana was patient, responsive and extremely attentive.
