Convenient Location, but Disappointing Restaurant I recently attended an international exhibition at this venue and wanted to share my experience. The exhibition hall's location is extremely convenient, with ample parking space and great accessibility. It was easy to find and navigate, which made my visit hassle-free. The availability of a bank and various locations within the venue was a definite plus. It made it convenient for attendees to take care of any financial or logistical needs during the event. However, I must admit that my excitement was dampened by the restaurant on site. The food quality was far from satisfactory – a disappointing contrast to the otherwise well-maintained venue. The restaurant's menu sounded promising, but the dishes were bland and unappetizing. It's unfortunate that the restaurant did not meet the same standards as the rest of the venue. In conclusion, the exhibition hall's location, parking, and accessibility are definite strengths, making it a suitable choice for events. However, if you plan to eat at the on-site restaurant, I strongly advise against it. It's best to explore dining options outside the venue for a more enjoyable culinary experience. The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Sri Lanka holds a special place in my heart as it's where I graduated with both my B.Sc and M.Sc degrees. It is undeniably a national resource, and I am grateful for the education and experiences I gained here. BMICH is an architectural marvel, a symbol of national pride, and a hub for academic and cultural events. The grandeur and historical significance of this place are truly awe-inspiring. It has played a pivotal role in the academic and cultural development of Sri Lanka. However, I must address one aspect that needs improvement - the canteen. While BMICH excels in many areas, the quality of food and service at the canteen often leaves much to be desired. For an institution of such stature, I believe the canteen experience should match the grandeur of the venue itself. It's a place where students and visitors often gather, and enhancing the dining experience would be a welcome improvement. Despite this minor setback, I remain wholeheartedly appreciative of BMICH's role as a national resource, a center of learning, and a venue for significant events. It holds immense historical and cultural importance and continues to contribute to the growth of Sri Lanka's intellectual and cultural landscape. In conclusion, BMICH is an exceptional institution, and I am proud to have graduated from here. I hope that in the future, efforts can be made to elevate the canteen experience to match the overall excellence of this remarkable place.

The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) is a convention center situated in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was constructed between 1970 and 1973 as a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, who served as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 1956 to 1959. The building materials used for its construction were largely imported from China. In 1998, a smaller Exhibition Centre known as the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre was added to the BMICH complex, also as a gift from China. The day-to-day operations of the BMICH are overseen by its Director, who is appointed by the board of management of the S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike National Memorial Foundation (BNMF). The BNMF, established by the S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike National Memorial Foundation Act No. 2 of 1975, is exempted from taxes and duties imposed by the Sri Lankan government. The BMICH complex is maintained by the board of management of the BNMF, which includes members such as the President of Sri Lanka, the Leader of the Opposition, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the Auditor General. The complex offers various facilities, including a library, a bank, a police detachment, and a restaurant. It also houses the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), specializing in international relations, languages, and cultural studies. The BMICH has hosted numerous high-profile events and exhibitions, including the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in 1976 and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2013. It is also a popular venue for convocation ceremonies and hosts the annual EDEX Expo. The Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre within the BMICH complex has been used for various local events and exhibitions, such as lifestyle shopping expos, book fairs, and trade shows related to home, construction, and fashion.
