There are two reviews here. One from January 2025 and now this from August 2026
Used to be my go-to… not anymore.
Tea Avenue on Jawatta Road was once one of my favourite alternatives to Java Lounge when I needed a change of scenery. Unfortunately, after today’s visit, I doubt I’ll be returning anytime soon. Wi-Fi? Barely functional. It literally took over 5 minutes just to load Google Maps to leave this review. For a café that’s priced at a premium, basic connectivity shouldn’t be a struggle. Flies. Everywhere. Indoors. Yes, it’s a common issue in Sri Lanka, but it’s unacceptable in an indoor café setting. Sitting inside with flies buzzing around you is not anyone’s idea of a relaxing coffee break. The prices are eye-watering. What you see in the image is about the size of my hand. The board says Rs. 1,800, but taxes bump it up to over Rs. 2,000. I wouldn’t mind paying that if the experience matched the price tag. But with poor internet, flies, and a subpar ambience, it simply doesn’t.
Java Lounge might have removed charging points, but they still offer a cleaner space and faster Wi-Fi. Sadly, Tea Avenue no longer offers anything that sets it apart.
I walked in thinking I’d have something to eat, but honestly? I was too put off to even order. Disappointed, Tea Avenue.
——————————————— My review from January 2026
I had a wonderful experience at The Tea Avenue! The ambience was incredibly calming, making it a perfect spot for working, catching up with friends, or even enjoying a tea party. The option to sit both indoors and outdoors is great, and there's ample parking on-site. I also appreciated the availability of charging points, which allowed me to work without the stress of competing for a single outlet.
We stopped by while waiting for the doctor, and decided to grab a coffee. I ordered the caramel frappe, and it was delicious! The caramel flavor was prominent, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it complemented the coffee. The portion size was decent for the price, though it could be a little bigger. The whipped cream was a bit much for me, but that's a personal preference.
We also ordered a tuna sandwich and cheese garlic bread. Both were excellent! The sandwich was stuffed generously with tuna, and it was incredibly fresh. The garlic bread was tasty, though I think it could use a little more cheese or thinner bread. But overall, I was happy with both dishes.
I'll definitely be returning to try more dishes next time. Keep up the great...
Read moreI hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and dissatisfaction with the recent food order (creamy mashroom pasta) I placed from Tea Avenue through the Uber Eats app. The experience I had was far from satisfactory, and I feel compelled to share my feedback.
I ordered a meal from Tea Avenue, expecting a decent portion size for the price I paid, which amounted to Rs. 1800+. To my astonishment, the portion I received was incredibly small, barely enough to comprise three bites. This was a complete letdown, especially considering the cost involved.
Not only did the minuscule portion fail to satisfy my hunger, but it also left me feeling ripped off and frustrated. I believe that as a customer, I have the right to receive food that not only meets a reasonable portion size but also offers value for the money I paid.
I understand that variations in portion sizes can occur, but the difference between my expectations and what was delivered was far too drastic to be overlooked. This experience has left me questioning the quality and consistency of service provided by Tea Avenue through the Uber Eats platform.
I urge you to address this matter seriously and take the necessary steps to ensure that such instances do not occur in the future. While I appreciate the convenience that Uber Eats offers, I also expect to receive food that justifies the cost and meets my expectations in terms of both taste and quantity.
I kindly request a refund or a suitable compensation for the disappointing experience I had with this order. I believe that acknowledging and rectifying this issue will not only restore my trust in your service but also prevent other customers from encountering similar disappointments.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution that is fair and...
Read moreI've had several wonderful experiences at Tea Avenue and I'm delighted to share my thoughts. This cozy spot at 08 Jawatta Rd is an excellent choice for team meet-ups and friendly gatherings. One of the standout features is the option to book a private cubicle, perfect for focused office work. The privacy it provides is commendable and I've found it incredibly useful during my visits.
The establishment offers a reliable and strong Wi-Fi connection, making it a great spot for remote work. I've never had any issues with connectivity, which is a huge plus in my book. The food here is not just good; it's amazing! Everything is freshly made, and you can taste the difference. Their cake options are delightful and always seem to be fresh out of the oven.
However, it's important to note that Tea Avenue can get quite loud, especially during peak hours when it's crowded. This might not be the ideal place for quiet, focused remote work or important meetings, as the noise from the crowd and music can be a bit overwhelming.
Another minor issue I encountered was the air conditioning on the top floor. Unfortunately, in some rooms, it wasn't functioning properly, and this did affect the overall vibe of the place negatively.
On the positive side, Tea Avenue is incredibly accessible and offers ample parking spaces, which is a huge convenience, especially in busy areas like Colombo 7.
I highly recommend Tea Avenue for team meet-ups and group discussions. The convenience of private cubicles, along with the delicious food and ample parking, makes it a great choice for social gatherings. Just be mindful of the noise levels during peak hours and the occasional air conditioning issues. Overall, a fantastic place for collaborative work and friendly...
