The German Bakery on Thimbirigasyaya Road has quickly become my favorite spot in Colombo, and for good reason. From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed by a calm and relaxing atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The serene environment, coupled with the bakery's warm, inviting decor, makes it the perfect place to unwind, whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee or settling in for a leisurely meal.

One of the standout aspects of The German Bakery is the incredibly supportive staff. They're always ready to help with a smile, ensuring that your experience is nothing short of excellent. Their attentive service is consistent, making you feel valued as a customer every time you visit. Whether you have a special request or just need some recommendations, they go out of their way to ensure you're satisfied.

Speaking of satisfaction, the food here is absolutely top-notch. Every dish is prepared with care, and you can taste the quality in every bite. From hearty breakfast options to delicious lunch plates, there's something on the menu for everyone. The food is not only excellent in taste but also presented beautifully, adding to the overall dining experience. And then there's the bread—truly some of the finest you’ll find in Colombo. Freshly baked and bursting with flavor, it’s a must-try.

The coffee at The German Bakery deserves a special mention. It's hands down some of the best coffee I've had in the city. The rich, smooth taste makes it the perfect companion to their delicious pastries or a slice of their delectable cakes. If you're a coffee lover, this place is a paradise. And with a variety of options to choose from, there's always something new to try.

Overall, The German Bakery has everything you could ask for in a café: a peaceful ambiance, exceptional service, fantastic food, and, of course, amazing coffee. Whether you're here for a quick bite, a leisurely meal, or just to relax with a cup of coffee, it's a place that never disappoints. It has quickly become my go-to spot, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining...

I cannot comment on the food because we were disgusted by an incident which took place. This review is only an advice for the bakery to follow. Visited today to get some bread during noon hours. A well dressed woman was in front of us. There was a basket of bread on the counter. The loaves were not covered or packed. This woman without any 2nd thoughts went ahead and touched a bread, she held it up and asked the cashier what the bread was! She didn't even buy it, she put it back. Knowing the terrible behaviour of some Sri Lankans, you should not keep fresh items without covers or keep them at reach. Put them inside a glass cabinet if this is too hard. The cashier should be able to tell the customers not to touch food. Covid or not, it's really not hygienic. This is common sense people should have, this is unacceptable behaviour. Knowing these things are possible in Sri Lanka, despite what the social status is of the customer, you should not display food in...

I had walked 9.2 km (no tuks/cabs/buses), by the time I walked into the German Artisan Bakery and Deli as it was the closest café to my final destination.

I was out of water and really needed to freshen up for the rest of the journey. I asked for a bottle of chilled water to takeaway as I was too exhausted for food/a heavy beverage (also, cost cutting, tehee).

The server/cashier lady could see that I was very close to drop dead. She didn't charge me for the water bottle. I insisted on paying, but she very kindly refused.

PS: I couldn't get her name, which I am very sad about (I got a tad emotional, kay?!).

I've been a repeat customer since 2014 because of good food and service (but had not come across today's server/cashier lady before). The German owners are very sweet and always happy to have a chat with you (omg, their babies are the cutest!).

Highly recommend this cozy café for all-day breakfast.

Drop by next time you are in the...

The German Bakery was one of those places I've driven past many times but never got a chance to try until my sister and I decided to do breakfast there on a weekend. The parking is limited and as you walk in its the family section with loads of toys and real animals for the kids. My neices loved it so much they dubbed the restaurant (the place with the toys). Had breakfast..eggs were fantastic and really filling. Loved that when you order tea they give 2 tea bags instead of 1. Also both my sister and I huge fans of German bread, love love the pumpernickel. We actually ended up eating here 3x within a week. Worth mentioning: the mustard was just 🤩
