This bronze sculpture is not just a tourist attraction, it is a reminder of Gandhi’s timeless principles. The life-size statue depicts him in his later years, walking with a stick – a reference to his famous Salt March in 1930 against the British salt tax. The location chosen for this monument also has an important significance. It is located near Ariana Park, which is home to several international organizations, including the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The inauguration ceremony took place on 14 November 2007, which was Children's Day in India and commemorated 60 years of India's independence from British rule. The sculptor behind this masterpiece is Gautam Pal, an internationally renowned artist known for creating statues that capture both the physical likeness and spiritual essence of his subjects.

Mahatma Gandhi was the key figure behind independence movement of India. He is known for his 'Ahimsa' philosophy of peace. His birthday October 2 is declared as International Day of Non-violence by UN. Mahatma Gandhi was Time magazine Person of the Year 1930. This huge statue is located outside the UN Geneva premises and accessible from the main road. The surroundings are also very calm and peaceful and this is a very good place for a quick photostop.

🇮🇳 Geneva and Gandhi are both references in the search for peace amongst mankind. In the international district, next to the United Nations European headquarters, visitors cand find a perfect spot to meditate in the Ariana park, Geneva, Switzerland. Here stands the statue of India's "Father of Nation", donated to the city in 2007 by the government of India as a token of friendship.
