We visited Fongyi Academy while we were in Kaohsiung. It is in between of Fongshan and Da-Dong MRT stations. It is a historic site where previous Academy was initially constructed in 1814-1823. Then it was used as a military hospital during Japanese colonial period and then restoration work competed in 2013. It is free for locals but for visitors - there are fees 66NT per person. It is interesting and nice place to look around and taking pictures with adorable characters sculptures. There is a room where you can dress up like an ancient officer and take picture ( it is free).
