We originally booked for 2 nights, but ended up staying for 2 weeks.||||Accomodations: we stayed in a Double room. The beds are comfortable. This hotel is newly renovated so the rooms are fresh and clean. It doesn't smell musty like many other Asian hotels. The washroom and shower is also new and clean. Room had small fridge, satellite TV and Air conditioning with your own thermostat. Linens and towels clean ||and new.||||Breakfast: breakfast is included. Breakfast is good. It is usually a toasted baguette with vegetables, cheese and bacon or sausage and some fruit. My wife doesn't eat much bread or meat, but they gave her more fruit instead. The coffee is freshly ground Starbucks blend. They also have congee and tea.||||Service: best service ever! This is a small, family run business. The entire staff is always smiling and friendly, from the counter staff to the cleaning and support staff. Most of them can communicate well in English. They can offer many recommendations about what to eat and where to go.||||Location: a little bit out of the way. It's on the East side of Kaohsiung, so you will need to use train or MRT to get to most 'tourist' places. It's a 10-15 minute walk to Fengshan train station. The train goes straight to Kaohsiung Main Station. It's a 20 to 25 minute walk to Fongshan MRT station. (Some sites like booking.com say that the hotel is 'less than a minute away' from Fengshan station. While this is technically true, you can't get to the station because its on the other side of the train tracks and the tracks are fenced in. You have to walk to the ||nearest railway crossing which is the reason for the 10 to 15 minute walk.) The hotel does have free bicycles which u can take to the train station. ||Another option is renting a scooter. We rented one from Louis Scooter Rental. Speaks good English and will even deliver scooter if needed.||||Nearby: there are quite a few noodle and dumpling shops in the area. Its hard to find one with an English menu though as you're not in a tourist area.||Right across the street is a place called Hito Coffee. They roast their own coffee beans and serve good food for about 60NT per plate. Owner speaks English and has English menu.||There is a 7/11 around the corner. ||There is a night market from Thursday to Sunday. Its kinda nice cuz its a local night market so theres no ||tourists there. You'll be the only one! Staff will give u directions.||||Extras: the hotel has a washer and dryer upstairs which is free for guests to use.||Bicycles are free.||Drinking water bottles provided.||All toiletries provided.||||Conclusion: when you compare the price with other hotels more conveniently located, you will find it's worth staying here. It's a great place and I am sure you will enjoy it as...
Read moreWe are still patting ourselves on the back for choosing the New Long as our base in Kaohsiung. Wonderful people throughout the hotel; an ultra-clean comfortable room with everything you could need; super-fast wi-fi; free laundry room; free bicycles and fantastic reception staff who are always ready to help with maps and restaurant recommendations. When you return from a long day out exploring, they greet you so enthusiastically that you feel like you are coming home!||Rooms are relatively small but come with a shower, toilet, washbasin, TV, fridge, aircon, hotwater flask and tea. Hot or iced water is available via a dispenser in the corridor.||The location is very close to the Fengshan (Fongshan) railway station and you have direct trains four times an hour to Kaohsiung centre, (15 mins.) These trains go straight on to Tainan (70 mins.) There is also a shuttle bus from the station to Fo Guang Shan monastery. The Kaohsiung MRT is about ten minutes walk away and the MRT is the mode of transport that will bring you to and from the airport. Or a taxi of course.||There is a 7/11 close by and another 7/11 in the station. If you are in the hotel in the evening and don't want to go far for dinner, visit the "carrot/radish/turnip restaurant" across the road, which is TV famous and serves excellent and cheap food, not just veggie but meat dishes too. The turnip cake "lo bat go" is what it...
Read moreThe journey to the hotel is quite a distance from the mass rapid transport station and we need to walk all the way to Feng shan rail station to pass the underground. Our advice is to take rail service from zuoyin high speed station than taking mass rapid transport to Feng shan station. Otherwise you will need to take a walk of 10 to 15 mins to reach the hotel. The hotel room is pretty small but the service provided is excellent. Thanks to Mango who take the extra effort to introduce places for us to shop around and help us to track rail service schedule which we did not even mention to her. Was raining when we arrive.... she even offer to help us offer mcdelivery. Breakfast is good as they offer set breakfast upon arrival. Simple and nice. ||Will definitely introduce it to our friends. ||P/s... there is no lift service in the hotel. Therefore... don't take too heavy luggage with you. Alternatively contact the hotel to request ground...
