Shoushan Zoo, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is a great destination for families and animal lovers. Recently renovated, the zoo offers a cleaner, more spacious environment for both visitors and animals. It is home to over 70 species, including Formosan black bears, Bengal tigers, and various exotic birds.
One of the highlights of Shoushan Zoo is its focus on conservation and education. The zoo provides interactive exhibits and educational programs that teach visitors about wildlife protection. The enclosures are designed to resemble natural habitats, giving animals a more comfortable living space.
The zoo is quite affordable, with an entrance fee of only NT$40 for adults, making it one of the cheapest zoos in Taiwan. However, the walking paths are quite steep, which might be challenging for some visitors. The zoo is also relatively small compared to others, so it can be explored within a few hours.
A major advantage of visiting Shoushan Zoo is its location near Shoushan (Monkey Mountain). Visitors can enjoy a hike before or after their zoo trip, making it a perfect day out in nature. Additionally, the zoo is accessible by public transportation, making it convenient for tourists.
Shoushan Zoo is a great place to visit, especially for families with children. While it may not be the biggest or most modern zoo, its affordability, educational value, and scenic surroundings make it a worthwhile stop...
Read moreThis zoo is DANGEROUS and incredibly badly managed. DO NOT GO. You will be attacked by wild monkeys and there will be NO staff available to help you or defend you. I went to this zoo with the school I work for today. We were four adults and 13 six-year-old students. It is not at all well maintained and there are no zookeepers or supervisors on the grounds at all. This was extremely disconcerting because, four times throughout our visit, we were attacked by aggressive, wild, male monkeys that were roaming free through the park. These monkeys tried to lunge at my students to attack them and bared their fangs at me. They were clearly aggressive, if not rabid. I had to fight them off with sticks and by throwing water at them. They would try to sneak up on us to attack us, without any provocation. It was extremely traumatic for my students, and for myself as well. There was no zoo personnel available or visible in the park at any time. It doesn't help that they don't empty the trashcans and that there is trash everywhere, which attracts the wild monkeys. I will never step foot it that zoo again, and would highly discourage anyone with children from ever visiting it. IT'S DANGEROUS. DO NOT GO. One other thing: Their white tiger is starving, it's obvious. This is a terrible place for animals and it should not be encouraged in any way,...
