Great place to visit even if you are not a science or history enthusiast. A lot of sciences on rocks and refinery processes can be a little too dry for many audiences, but you can find many quite interesting facts and importances on gold that modern society depends upon. A $3 admission ticket is certainly worth the money plus additional $1.50 that takes you to the actual mining tunnel on a self guided tour.
(1) virtual reality mining experience is a must visit program located in the Heaven Earth Exhibit. New to the museum. Just started in Nov 2022 with very limited space of 4 person per show running about 15 to 20 minutes long included in paid admission. Must sign up in person. Roughly one hour between the shows. Don’t miss out on this one. Truly amazing.
(2) A 220.2KG gold bullion worth around 14 million US Dollars is exhibited in the Gold Museum with paid admission. You can actually touch it if you want to bring good luck/fortune home.
(3) The self-guided old gold mining tunnel is also very interesting to visit for as little as $1.5 extra. It is running 30 meters long on a real segment of the old mining tunnel deeply into the mine and an add-on segment with steep climbing and slippery on the ground to simulate the real scenes 130 meters below...
Read moreWe were severely disappointed to find that after paying for the tunnel experience, that it was closed off for renovation about 150 yards into it.. I wish they had told us that before we had purchased the tickets, put on the hardhat, and walked in. Our entire experience lasted only about 12-15 minutes. Had we known, we would not have bothered spending that money.
Also, they have set times for their different experiences and by the time we got there around 1 PM, everything for the rest of the afternoon was already sold out. So we didn’t even get to do the little mining car experience because all the ones through 3:30 PM had been sold out by the time we arrived.
We also found the signs to be incredibly confusing and every entrance had a separate fee so there was not one general park fee but rather we were nickeled and dimed for everything. I would say if you had a limited amount of time in Jiufen, you don’t have to feel bad about missing this one.
The only reason I’m giving it three stars instead of two is because if you walk around the outside of the museum buildings and cross the suspension bridge over to the next little village, you can find yourself over by another series of temples that are...
Read moreGold Museum is well worth a visit - we originally planned to stay for a few hours but ended up staying until the 5pm closing time.
Staff were friendly and enthusiastic about sharing what the gold museum has to offer. There is a Family Mart near the entrance so be sure to stock up on isotonic drinks, chocolate and energy bars etc as you will need the energy to partake in various activities like a gold mining VR experience (highly recommended, buy a ticket and make a reservation. Be 5 minutes early as they won't wait for latecomers), gold panning session, Tunnel No 5 visit (free hairnet and helmet provided) and so on
Don't miss the experience of touching and taking pictures with a genuine 230 kg gold bar which is one of the museum exhibits. The Gold Museum also has a post office (stamps and some philatelic products sold here), police station and dining options
Climb up a rocky trail and multiple stairs to enjoy a paranomic view of the Jinguashi area amidst the ruins of a Japanese...
