Sanhe is huge! Though the night market is officially only on Zhongyang road, running north and south between the two orange MTR lines, in reality it also runs on a parallel road to the west, Wenhua road, with a connection at the northern end along Changshou street, in an "n" shaped route. This gives it a two dimensional map, similar to Shilin, as opposed to linear night markets like Ningxia or Roahe and one could then do continues laps.
The main market street is comprised mostly of merchandising, with a roll of vendors parked in the center of the lane. As one loops across to the western, secondary street at the north end, there are food vendors radiating to the north due to overflow.
The secondary western road is open to regular car and scooter traffic with vendors along the sidewalks. Contrary to Zhongyang, Wenhua street is comprised mostly of food shops and street food vendors.
As for the bathroom, as one does laps, Zhengyi park and parking structure at the north end of Wenhua road has full facilities on the...
Read moreReally cool, authentic, non-touristy spot. My accomodation is by Taipei Bridge station, and I was pleasantly surprised by this night market. Some foods that looks so simple, are very unsuspecting, and will blow you away! So far, have found great dumplings, soup, fruits, self serve dishes (if you have a restricted diet), coffee, green onion pancake, exotic foods and more! You can stroll this area almost any time of day and find something delicious.
The clothing and accessories are the same as what is found elsewhere and I haven't compared prices, but there is a surprisingly good selection.
Would love to stay in this area again, in the future, but other tourists may not be as elated as me, and would be more comfortable in the heart of Taipei. If you are more into experiencing the culture and raw aspects of where you are (ie almost getting mowed down by scooters lol), you will love it.
Places like this are why I...
Read moreI have been to a few markets in and around Taipei. I like this one. Not as many people on scooters trying to drive through the crowds. And seemed a better flow up and down. A good variety of many foods that are more than just the usual Taiwanese food you get. Thai and Vietnamese food for a nice change. Plenty of side streets which again offer differing foods.
The woman who is at the beginning (Sanchong bridge end), maybe one or two stands in, usually the right hand side, makes baked pastry filled with meat deliciousness. I don't know what they are called, but similar in appearance to the Pepper cakes you can buy downtown in Taipei City, without the pepper. Given I come from NZ and enjoy a mince or steak pie, this is the closest I have found so far.
There is a Vietnamese/Thai restaurant half way up, going up on right hand side street (the are not listed on Google), the food...
