SAMA Onsen & Massage — Attraction in Ratsada

One hour onsen soaking experience and another hour of aromatherapy massage. Ample of time to unwind and relax, for $75SGD. Very decent! This spot is in Old Phuket Town so you’d need to travel a fair bit.

Made reservations via WhatsApp it was very easy, but we made payment at the counter before the experience.

Before the experience you fill up a form to detail your massage preferences and you get to select the massage oil of your choice. I like that they use Jasmine and it gives it a local taste! The staff are very friendly and nice and guide us exactly on what to do.

This onsen seems to be for 2 persons. Was here with my partner.

There are instructions in the onsen room on what to do. You’re expected to shower first before soaking in the onsen. The room is air conditioned and the warm onsen ia prepared for you. When seated the water is about lower breast level. It isn’t as deep as the typical onsens in Japan.

Cold bottle water and cold towels are prepared and the whole room was very aesthetically pleasing.

They have a well equipped shower and a vanity table and even kimonos prepared for you.

After an 50 minutes the staff would knock on the door to let you know so you’ll get ready for your massage.

The couple massage room was nice, very widely spaced and they would get you to change into disposable undies and you would face down. They would cover you with large towel and conceal parts of your body that they’re not massaging at the moment. They do use their body weight to add pressure for aromatherapy massages and they use ample of oil.

To end it off they served us tea, cookies and a hot towel. There’s water that’s self serviced and wifi for you to connect to while you sit and relax at the waiting area.

I've just returned from what can only be described as an utterly sublime experience at Sama Onsen and Massage!

Having been accustomed to the impressive massages and treatments here in Phuket, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Perhaps I’m just a spy now, uncovering hidden gems, but believe me when I say, this is the first time I've experienced true spa relaxation in such a profound way. And I really needed this after closing a few deadlines at work while juggling them with entertaining my visitors.

The onsen itself provides a serene escape, with beautifully maintained waters that soothe the soul and melt away every ounce of stress.

But it was the massage that truly set this experience apart — the therapists here are not just skilled; they are artisans of relaxation.

My therapist’s name is Tam and she is a true magician. Each movement was perfectly tailored to relieve tension and enhance my wellbeing.

What makes Sama Onsen and Massage so special? Is it the professionalism of the staff, or their proficiency in English that adds to the comfort? Or perhaps, it's the onsen bath experience itself? In fact, I tried the onsen bath for the first time in my life and it added an unforgettable touch to my visit.

The atmosphere, the service, and the overall ambience are beyond compare.

On the downside, the location of Sama Onsen and Massage is quite unexpected, as it’s literally situated at a petrol station. This was a surprise, and admittedly, I drove past it the first time around. I had to double back to find it. While this might initially deter some, don’t let it dissuade you—the unparalleled relaxation experience inside is well worth the discovery!

Thoroughly disappointed; we specifically booked with SAMA based on the good reviews & type of massages offered. We paid 2650 baht! All for a deep tissue package , detox package & each a head massage worth 550baht that is the cost for a full Thai massage.

While the Thai massage was very good included in my package, the lymphatic massage was very disappointing with the belly massage being about a five minute rub. Even more so, the ‘head’ massage that was 550baht was just a 45 minute head rub that I do myself when I get a headache. We paid this price because of a migraine my husband was having and ongoing stress/tension in my head; they specified this massage was for that but all it was is light rubbing on each side of the head . A waste of money .

My husband said the deep tissue was the worst he got with no pressure being applied after asking for a hard pressure on the form.

Overall, if you’re looking for a Thai massage, they are well-experienced with this and the place is clean.

However, any other package clearly is not their area of expertise and I don’t recommend offering a service to customers if you cannot deliver it, let alone charging a high cost for it !

We chose SAMA over the other massage house due to these services and in the end, it was a run for our money. 2650 baht is a lot and I cannot fathom how it was below our expectation; we really needed these treatments and hoped to receive it here but it was a loss on our end for both our health & money.
