Eyüp Sultan Mosque

The Social Complex of the ryup sultan I Mosque Was named after the Ebu Eyup elensar who took place in the encompassment of the Constantinopolis by the Umayyads and was martryized. After Aksemsettin, the master of Sultan Mehmed the conquerer, explored the place where this blessed person was buried, a tomb was built in the first place. Later a social complex was constituted with the addition of certain building dusters

In the center. the social complex consisted of a mosquera tomb,. medresa and double Turkish bath. The social complex has started to take my shape since 1459 Which is the construcion date of the mosque Afterthe conquest al sultans started to gird themselves with swords there After several restorations, the social complex has substahtially lost its originality in time. The fist mosque built has experienced a massive destruction in the earthquake in 1766 and in 1798 the Selim I made the mosque demolish completely and had it built again and opened to worship in October 24, 1800.

The entrance to the outer courtyard of the mosque is through two doors. In the outer courtyard a there is a public fountain with three windows this structure is called the sherbet house because of the tradition of pouring sherbet in bajram and speciani days inher courtyard is surrounded with a portico of 13 domes which stands on 12 pilars.

The mosque was built from limestone ly a team which was headed by Uzun Hasan Agha. It is built on a rectahgular plan and it has a protruding mihrab The sanctualy With a size of 26x1 1 m. is covered witha dome of 1750 m. diameter and 8 half domed portico besides The mosque with a marble minbar is galleried oh 3 sides except the mihrab side. The mosque has two minarets With two gallerles: The Turkish bath in the Complex is the bidest Ottoman Bath which remained intact Madrasa and imaret didn't remain intact/ the tomb the most important struciure of the complex is ah eight sided structure with a single dome made of limestone.
