Here are a few major tips. You must bargain AT LEAST 70% off of their original offer. This is a minimum. Never buy from the first shop. Walk around. Don’t be afraid to walk away, they will pull you back with a much lower price. The global village offers the same items but for around 50% less than the textile souk.

This was my experience... take it as a learning token. I was looking at cashmere scarves and their original offer was $225 dirhams per scarf. I bargained down to $130 dirhams and considered this to be a good deal and bought. However, after walking to other shops, they offered me the same cashmere scarf for $40 dirhams. Later on, I went to the global village and they offered the same scarf for an original price of $40 dirhams which can be bargained down to at least $30 dirhams.

Unfortunately lot of scammers there just after your money, so beware of the following:

Initial price you get offered will be at least 5-10 times what it's actually worth. Everything is mass produced and not handmade. You can find the same souvenirs for 5AED elsewhere. Don't believe it they claim it's handmade cashmere/pashmina - it's cheap stuff and make sure you don't overpay.

If you want to go there for the experience then it's fine, just beware sellers are way too agressive and will do anything to get you into their shop. If you don't like the price just walk away. Stay away form the people selling fake watches and bags.

I was hoping to buy buttons for a costume I was working on. They do not exist here. I was also looking for fabric. There is plenty, but I did not find what I wanted. (I'm not surprised. I was looking for something extremely specific). What I did find was a lot of extremely aggressive salesmen. I did end up buying some dates. But no, I do not want a kilo of saffron. Lol.
