🇦🇪 JEBEL JAIS : The highest mountain peak in the region 🇦🇪

The Jebel Jais mountain range forms the highest peak in Ras Al Khaimah, soaring at an impressive 1,934 metres above sea level. The mountain has an exciting topology and contains rare fossils and marine and terrestrial sedimentary rocks, which give a fascinating insight into ancient times. Scientists believe that the Al Hajar Mountains were formed by a continental collision near the Arabian–Eurasian convergent plate boundary more than 70-million years ago. The name Al Hajar translates into ‘Al’, which means ‘the’, and ‘Hajar’, which means ‘stone’; when the words are combined, the name translates into ‘The Stone’. Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais, at 1,934 metres tall, usually records temperatures that are 10°C cooler on average than other popular landmarks across the country.

During summer months, temperatures at all the major landmarks across the emirates average between 43 – 45°C while at the Jebel Jais summit temperatures reach a moderate 31°C during the day time and 29 °C during the late afternoon.

While visitors and residents look to escape the heat with indoor activities across other areas of the UAE, Jebel Jais offers the opportunity for travellers and residents looking for outdoor adventures and diverse scenery at significantly cooler temperatures than at sea level, and incredible views of the stunning Ras Al Khaimah landscape.

Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates attracts thrill-seekers and nature lovers in their droves. The mountain’s peaks tower above date palm farms, wadis, ancient fishing villages, and the Arabian Gulf.

Jebel Jais mountain peak is an area of outstanding natural beauty, a place to appreciate nature and take advantage of its unique landscape for nature-inspired adventure activities. Well constructed roads allow you to reach the peaks via numerous meandering hairpins. There are regular pull-ins so that you can stop and admire the ever-changing views.

Various designated mountain trails are suited to walkers of all experience levels. Six trails have a cumulative distance of 16km, each with its own challenges through the diverse mountain ecosystem. The hiking trails are throughout the upper and lower segments of the mountains.

Jebel Jais is home to some of the most exciting adventures. If you are a thrill-seeker, you will enjoy the adrenaline-fueled Jais Flight, the world’s longest zipline experience that takes you at knee-trembling speeds of between 120 kmph and 150 kmph for almost three minutes across deep ravines, canyons and through jagged peaks that lie 1680 metres above sea level. The family-friendly Jais Sledder allows you to reach up to 40 kmph as you hurtle down the mountains swerving through 1,885 exhilarating metres of chicanes with views of the spectacular mountain range.

During your visit, make sure to also dine at 1484 by Puro, the highest restaurant in the country at 1,484 metres above sea level.

Back at base, you’ll discover the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp, run by the British adventurer’s highly experienced team. A Hidden Gem in the UAE: Mountain Escape & First-Time Camping Adventure

One of my favorite destinations in the UAE to enjoy quality time is this breathtaking mountain retreat. Surrounded by calm and natural beauty, the area offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The views during sunrise and sunset are especially magical, bringing a sense of calm and peace to the soul.

Recently, several roadside shops have opened nearby, making it easy to grab snacks and refreshments. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend camping trip or a fun BBQ with family and friends. For adventure lovers, activities like hiking and ziplining are also available—just make sure to book the zipline experience in advance, as it tends to fill up quickly.

Important Safety Reminders for Night Camping: • Avoid setting up camp near the edges of the mountain, as this can be dangerous and may result in injury or worse. • Please dispose of charcoal and waste only in designated areas to help preserve the environment and avoid fines.

A Memorable First-Time Camping Experience

Our first trip to this mountain was nothing short of unforgettable. I went with four of my colleagues, and we began our journey by heading to the top to soak in the incredible panoramic views. After taking some memorable photos, we descended slightly to find the perfect spot to set up camp. If you’re planning to catch the sunrise, make sure your tent faces east or offers a clear view in that direction.

We came well-prepared: a flask of karak tea (since a single cup at the top costs AED 10), a portable butane cooking stove (AED 20–25), two torches with 5-hour battery backups, and two tents. Although setting up the tents was a bit tricky at first, a quick YouTube tutorial helped us get it done. Warm clothes, beanies, and proper layering made a big difference as the temperature dropped significantly at night.

To make our bonfire experience safe and enjoyable, we brought our own firewood and used a stand, as required by the municipality regulations. Our BBQ setup was simple but satisfying—chicken, corn, a grill, charcoal, lighter fluid, and fire starters. The highlight of the morning was cooking Maggi noodles with karak in the cool mountain air.

One thing we’ll definitely bring next time: comforters or sleeping bags. The cold and strong winds caught us by surprise, and better insulation would have made the night even more comfortable.

In the end, it was an amazing experience—great views, delicious food, and quality time under the stars. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or an exciting outdoor adventure, this mountain escape is highly recommended. Perfect for families, friends, or even solo travelers seeking a connection...

I live for driving :)

Those who love long drives through winding roads “buckle up”.

We have visited jebel Jais many times but this time wasn’t the same. We started our journey at 1500 Hrs on a Sunday from Al Furjan, Dubai. Barbecue stands were already there in our car’s trunk and we had picked charcoal, sweet potatoes, cleaned fishes, cones, salt, black pepper, oil, snacks, garbage bags, water and a camping light ( camping light cost 100 AED) on the way.

We had missed to fill fuel before starting the climb, so we turned back and ran to the nearest fuel station and filled fuel. We had reached Jebel Jais by 1800 Hrs. It doesn’t take long to find a calm and safe place to camp. It was a valley like place between the road concrete barrier and a natural wall made of a part of the demolished mountain ( for the construction of the mountain road).

Before reaching at the top of the hill, there is a scenic spot for watching sunset. From the view deck we can even see one of the port at very far. If you like to walk through the rocky mountain there is an option to go to the top of the mountain by walk. Please ensure you have good shoe for walking through rocks.

We had parked our car in such a way that we could get a bit privacy at our camping area. We had started arranging things for starting our camping like arranging the barbecue stand, installing the camping light, cleaning of the sweet potatoes, fishes and firing the charcoal ( oh god!!! it was a difficult task to start the fire on charcoal). We had used ghee with cotton for starting the fire. We suggest to carry some charcoal firing catalyst.

After cooking and enjoying the food we had made, we were just sitting and talking near the barbecue stand with fire in it . Temperature at the time was 10 degree Celsius. Since this was our first overnight camping we didn’t brought any camping tents, we used our car for taking rest at night. There are many well maintained toilets available at the camping areas ( please use and clean the toilets responsibly, we even saw people are carelessly through used toilets napkins and child’s diapers on the toilet floor).

It was too cold inside the car, we used our car’s heater for warming up. Our plan was to walk up early for watching the beautiful sunrise, so we had set alarm. Luckily we got up before sunrise, climbed on a small peek to see the sunrise. We had waited an hour, but sun was not in a mood to come out of the clouds. Golden trims of the clouds were beautiful to see.

After the sunrise we started to home. In between we stopped at some beautiful spots and took few snaps of beautiful memories.

It’s was an awsome trip !!!

Common guys it’s only one life…. Please enjoy the beauty of...
