Today i visited with family, one of the best place in UAE, Jabel Jais Mountain, the tallest (1.9km) in the UAE, is famous for the snowfall during winter peaks. We planned for a Friday afternoon trip and got our co-pilot (Google Maps!) set the directions and told us that we could reach within 2 hours' time :) We took the route from Dubai (via Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd - E311) and reached the foothills after an unenthusiastic journey. It was thence an astonishing ascent that snakes on the road carved through the rocky mountain face! It is around 35km uphill and it's just scenically spectacular!

There are many viewing points along the way and it's worth stopping at these for the breathtaking vistas; looking down at the hairpins and corners could spark off an adrenaline rush. There are two lanes go up and one coming down. We could see many picnickers setting up tents and preparing BBQs on allocated places all the way up. Please be aware of the shutterbugs and Sunday drivers who tend to park their cars haphazardly and wander around, also expect errant drivers.

The weather was awesome and temperature at the top was around 14c and we enjoyed the hot tea and snacks from the mobile cafeteria in the parking lot. There are places where we can trek the rocky mountainside without any special gear.

We stayed for two hours and drove back enjoying the spectacular views all around the way down along the sun, and, of course, decided to come back for a family day out with camping, BBQ'ing and more! Have fun with family...

3 Couples and a small bunch of kids decised to camp in May

Boy were we happy to have done that.

We picked the View point 11 and we pitched tent - the place seemed deserted at first Just us in 3 cars and one more car with a couple of campers.

We had a nice evening.

The weather was just right - one could get around with a pair of shorts and t-shirt, As much as we were aware that the temperature will be 15-20 C we braved it and it was worth it in the end.

Ate our BBQ and chatted by the fire and it was great with a Help cleaning stuff till 11pm and the Security Officials paying us a visit every 45 minutes or so making sure we were safe and there was no trouble (making sure we were careful not to litter as well)

The twist began here.

At 2am after we were tucked into our sleeping bags there was a steady inflow of traffic - It beats me how people are getting to a camping spot much into the night - if you do not pick a right spot you are bound to have a sleepless night (like us)

There were some noisy groups that arrived turning up the volume on their cars and kept us up and also a bunch that was trying to lift our camping equipment, fortunately we were up and told them off.

The verdict is it was a beautiful place to wake up in the morning - bad that the unruly crowd had no consideration for their neighbors and perfect weather one can ask for in the heat of May. Beware of Wind and occasional misty rain and the dust that rages with the...

This place is just awesome. I have visited multiple times there and still get a feeling like it's the first time. Best time to visit in winters, from November to February. I am sharing some important tips for those who are visiting first time or not visited in deep winters. 1.apart from the coal for barbeque, If anyone is planning to stay overnight; make sure to keep some wood, which will keep you warm in mountains. 2. wear warm cloths(jackets, woolen socks, cap), by cause of the chilling weather and trust me, the temperature goes 6 degree to 4 degree Celsius. 3.for camping, better to keep 3-4 fluffy bedding or blankets, so that you can make enough layers in the base inside the camp. I am Suggesting this because the floor is full of concrete and it may disturb you while sleeping in the night. 4. Must keep hand sanitizer, hand wash and toilet paper, because the public toilets are so much occupied and you won't get these toiletries there. 5. If planning to stay in the roadside area, it's not required to have own lights, otherwise, it's compulsory to carry the lights so that you can keep your eyes around. We have seen multiple FOXES last time, as they get the smell of our delicious food. 6. You may not get enough breakfast options in the cafetarias, so if you want carry the raw material for breakfast like egg, bread, tea, coffee etc. etc. Most inportant: Please keep your eyes on your kids to maintain their safety. Thank you 🙂 Enjoy your trip

This mountain is one of my favourite spots for winters. Mountain height is approximately1900m and is the UAE’s tallest mountain. Last weekend I visited Jebel Jais one more time (also visited the week before). Left frim Dubai at 10.00pm and took almost 2hours roughly to reach the top of mountain. Beware - no lights while approaching the camping spots (camp spots have lights) - dangerous curves - loose gravels on road. Sometimes single track for two way traffic. Temperature was around 20degrees with cool breeze at 12 o clock. We had setup our camps so that children could get in and feel cosy. Mountain has outstanding facilities such as Toilet (v clean), Shops etc.you are allowed to do bbq as long as you dont spill it on the ground, if you do, than you should be ready to pay fine as muncipality personel are patroling round the clock. We were awake all night, did some bbq and waited for the sunrise. Finally at around 6.30 am we saw some light emerging in the blue sky, trust me, you dont want to miss this sight. It was an amazing experience. Recommend it to everyone to visit this mountain and if you have sometime to spare, you should camp overnight. Enjoy!!!
