Today i visited with family, one of the best place in UAE, Jabel Jais Mountain, the tallest (1.9km) in the UAE, is famous for the snowfall during winter peaks. We planned for a Friday afternoon trip and got our co-pilot (Google Maps!) set the directions and told us that we could reach within 2 hours' time :) We took the route from Dubai (via Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd - E311) and reached the foothills after an unenthusiastic journey. It was thence an astonishing ascent that snakes on the road carved through the rocky mountain face! It is around 35km uphill and it's just scenically spectacular!
There are many viewing points along the way and it's worth stopping at these for the breathtaking vistas; looking down at the hairpins and corners could spark off an adrenaline rush. There are two lanes go up and one coming down. We could see many picnickers setting up tents and preparing BBQs on allocated places all the way up. Please be aware of the shutterbugs and Sunday drivers who tend to park their cars haphazardly and wander around, also expect errant drivers.
The weather was awesome and temperature at the top was around 14c and we enjoyed the hot tea and snacks from the mobile cafeteria in the parking lot. There are places where we can trek the rocky mountainside without any special gear.
We stayed for two hours and drove back enjoying the spectacular views all around the way down along the sun, and, of course, decided to come back for a family day out with camping, BBQ'ing and more! Have fun with family...

Read more3 Couples and a small bunch of kids decised to camp in May
Boy were we happy to have done that.
We picked the View point 11 and we pitched tent - the place seemed deserted at first Just us in 3 cars and one more car with a couple of campers.
We had a nice evening.
The weather was just right - one could get around with a pair of shorts and t-shirt, As much as we were aware that the temperature will be 15-20 C we braved it and it was worth it in the end.
Ate our BBQ and chatted by the fire and it was great with a Help cleaning stuff till 11pm and the Security Officials paying us a visit every 45 minutes or so making sure we were safe and there was no trouble (making sure we were careful not to litter as well)
The twist began here.
At 2am after we were tucked into our sleeping bags there was a steady inflow of traffic - It beats me how people are getting to a camping spot much into the night - if you do not pick a right spot you are bound to have a sleepless night (like us)
There were some noisy groups that arrived turning up the volume on their cars and kept us up and also a bunch that was trying to lift our camping equipment, fortunately we were up and told them off.
The verdict is it was a beautiful place to wake up in the morning - bad that the unruly crowd had no consideration for their neighbors and perfect weather one can ask for in the heat of May. Beware of Wind and occasional misty rain and the dust that rages with the...
