We really enjoyed our visit to Cartwright Hall to see the displays, but especially to see Fighting to be Heard and I Am Me. Those two exhibitions were very beautiful and well-curated - everyone involved should be very proud of their efforts.
The entrance exhibition space is beautiful, including the impressive sculptures. I was also really happy to see a Dame Laura Knight painting, which I didn't realise was on display here before I visited, as I'd just finished reading about her and her work.
I enjoyed some of the Hockney art, and I loved the gallery spaces upstairs featuring artworks by Arpana Caur, Emilie Taylor, Sutapa Biswas, Bertram Priestman, L.S. Lowry, William Shackleton, and Yinka Shonibare (I mention these in particular as they were my favourite works).

The room is split into four sections and looks at the arts and costumes of each of those four nations. All items had either been donated by local people or had been purchased using funding grants.
We found the level of information very informative, clear and succinct, a real bonus when perusing such exhibitions. It is set in a good space and nicely distributed around the room. We found it very interesting and the choice of items was very varied, mirroring the intention to show the variety of influences and skills used...
Read moreI finally entered this building after visiting Lister Park so many times. The park is lovely, but the building is equally so. I can't say that I am a fan of art, I prefer architecture, but there are some great pieces of artwork here. In the gallery, you will find the largest collection of David Hackney's lifework beautiful displayed. I must say it was very interesting to wall through. Works displayed by Osman Yousefzada that I completely don't understand, but some people seem to like it. What was more interesting to me was the portrait exhibition by Shy Burhan of 'Women in Uniform'. Her display of women of colour defying social stereotypes in professions normally held by men. Very interesting. Art is now digital people, amazing. The gallery is one to see. They encourage kids to visit and host craft sessions, and...
