Another amazing free museum in beautiful Thetford, the museum, is in the actual old paint shop of Charles Burrells factory an amazing place with beautiful steam traction engines and a long and interesting history plus they have a lovely little cafe as well . The bonus also is that they have the original Corporal Jack Jones the butchers van from dad's army resting in their museum. .I must say it is staffed by volunteers who also keep the old steam engines in wonderful condition . The staff were hard working but very friendly and very informative about the wonderful museum and its fine collection of engines and artifacts . Again a must visit place if you are in...
Read moreMy youngest and middle children love to pop in here when it's open to see the engines. It's always lovely and welcoming in there and we're always greeted by friendly and happy people. There is not much in there but they have utilised the space well. They have a little area to dress up, watch a video (which has some seating), an area showing how things were traditionally made etc plus the engines (approx 4). Upstairs there is a cafe (which I haven't used) and there are toilets onsite. There is also free parking available near to the museum (which is located next to poundstretcher and wilkos). A lovely little place to visit and a whole host of people to speak with if you'd like...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant museum. We were very warmly welcomed by volunteers. The ground floor is accessible and the volunteers are keen to tell the stories relating to the vehicles and stately engines. Corporal Jones ' van from Dads Army has a very interesting history and we spent a fair time talking to Alan(?) about it. Also heard about the two large steam engines. Don't forget to look up at the roof!! A great visit. Highly recommend. It's the volunteers that make this place so good. We were sad not to be able to visit the Dad's Army museum as it is only open on Saturday, am sure it would be...
