Tall Orders, 22-24 King Street, Thetford
A change from our usual places, we've ventured into a new town today. The boy has an interview tomorrow with a recruitment agency so we came to find out where he needs to go. To not check out the local coffee shops would be rude! A quick Google found a small number of independent coffee places here but there are only a couple of chains anyway. Notably Starbucks and Costa.
This one is situated on the main high street. We arrived at just before 10am and the place was relatively quiet. We weren't really sure about ordering so we chose a table, noted down the number and went to order at the bar. On display were the tastiest looking scones (very similar to those offered by Thetford Garden Centre!) so, in true, time honoured fashion, we had to have one!
Obviously complimented with a skinny cappuccino (we have to rate our coffee shops fairly!)
The cheese scones were £1.80 each and the drinks were £2. Very good value in our opinion. Scones were served warm and the cappuccinos were piping hot. The lady apologised for a delay with the drinks coming but I didn't think we had to wait too long so an apology wasn't really necessary.
Comfort A mix of comfy and wooden chairs at mostly tables. There were no sofas that we saw. The tables seemed a little high for the leather chairs we sat in. There was free WiFi which was sufficient and stable. The code is available on the blackboard in the window.

Read moreCafe has a nice welcoming appearance, looks clean and modern but the customer service really wasn't good. Staff were not friendly, solemn faces. Food was very average and mediocre, definitely not a delight for a foodie. I'm always suspicious of cooks that serve easy cook rice when it's really not difficult to cook rice. The food and the coffee were average, infarct coffee was really weak and not great. In fact the flat white and the latte I ordered were exactly the same except the cups were different. I wouldn't recommend this place to any foodie, it's mediocre and very average. Better coffee and food in a coffee chain, which is disappointing because ithe cafe is very quaint and pretty looking. Read moreDifficult visit. 7 of us seated at around 13.00. Unfortunately baked potatoes sold out/soup too. When asked for wayer the waitress' response was 'I only have one pair of hands' ... (unbeknown to the lady who asked, the waitress had previously been asked). The products are of low standard (indeed the tinned sweetcorn on my salad was 'dry'). Not convinced the coffee was freshly ground/made in the machine. Fish fingers also low quality. All in all 'looks nice' and Stokes ketchup a nice touch but better quality basics would have mafe a far better impression. Tried to find their hygeine rating... suspicious it wasn't on the door. A quick check rated it as 3. Hmmmm taking all of the above into account neither I nor the group...
