The Dad's Army Museum in Thetford, Norfolk, is a beloved tribute to the classic British television series "Dad's Army," which aired from 1968 to 1977. The series, a comedic portrayal of the British Home Guard during World War II, was largely filmed in and around Thetford, making the museum a fitting location to celebrate its legacy. The museum, managed by volunteers, offers an array of exhibits that transport visitors back to the 1940s. These include original props, costumes, and memorabilia from the show, as well as detailed recreations of iconic scenes, such as Captain Mainwaring's office. Interactive displays provide insight into the making of the series and the real-life history behind the Home Guard. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum hosts special events, including walking tours of key filming locations around Thetford, allowing fans to see where memorable episodes were brought to life. The Dad's Army Museum not only preserves the cultural heritage of the show but also serves as a nostalgic reminder of the spirit and humor that resonated with audiences during its original broadcast and continues to charm new generations of fans.

Today, we had a great Thetford location tour by Rod, and two other museum volunteers (sorry I can’t remember their names!) The tour was brilliant, and packed with details about filming locations around Thetford. It was very well planned out and so many memories of a great British sit-com we all love. Dads Army was the best, and the museum staff keep that memory alive. Following the tour, which finished at the Museum, we had refreshments and a good look around at the artefacts and mementoes of the series displayed within. I wholeheartedly recommend booking a location tour when dates become available, which fill up quickly! No visit is complete without taking home some souvenirs from the well stocked gift shop. Well done to you all!

We had an amazing time looking and reading all the material at the museum. The nice thing being, local parking and entrance to the museum is free. Of course you can make a voluntary contribution. The day we visited was very nostalgic as there were 1940 songs being sung, including the Dad's army theme tune, which made it even more atmospheric. The guides were extremely helpful too. I would highly recommend a visit. We also, walked around and found some of the locations like Mill lane, Nether Row where scenes were shot. Don't forget the Bell Hotel where the cast use to stay. Enjoy

Absolutely amazing place , lots of original props from the show very informative, lots to see and a lovely little cafe as well .plus, it was free entry, which was amazing . They have a great souvenir shop where you can purchase lots of dads army related items . It was not a particularly large museum but had so much to see and do in there that it felt big if that makes sense .plus so many more dad's army related maps of the area and filming locations . Wonderful informative and helpful volunteer staff . A must see place to visit in the beautiful town of Thetford

If you loved Dad's Army as a child or if you still love it today, whatever age you are, this place will make you very very happy. Just a few rooms crammed with pictures and items from the series and the two films, and a lovely tea room with wartime recipe cakes (thankfully no lard or strange substitute ingredients). The museum is run by the nicest people you could ever meet, some dressed in appropriate wartime clothes and brimming with enthusiasm. Take plenty of readies for the shop, and your best smile for selfies with Captain Mainwaring, Joe Walker and Pike.

A great wee place to visit. If you want to go on the full tour of locations that they organize you will need to book. They do private or coach tours. You can visit some location which are walking distance within the town. (See some of the photos attached). They have a map guide telling you where to go for the locations within the town. place was packed when I went. Lots to see and read. There is a small cafe aswell
