An important national collection that tells the story of the heydays of tile making in the UK. Based in the former Craven Dunnill factory buildings on the banks of the River Severn. Jackfield Tile Museum is one among many museums and attractions around Ironbridge that are based in important historical sites within this area of Shropshire which was so important during the industrial revolution and the development of manufacturing which led to British preeminence and wealth as the Worlds greatest manufacturer and exporter. As well as the Tile Museum the site is now also once again making tiles. Under the name of Craven Dunnill Jackfield Ltd they specialise in reproducing historical tiling and bespoke art tiling very much in the tradition of the 19th century Craven Dunnill tile making. Factory tours are available and a fascinating look into how the skills of old are combined with the latest technologies to reproduce tiling for the conservation and restoration of some of our most important buildings, maintaining our heritage for future generations. For anyone with an interest in architecture, interior design, industrial and social history the Jackfield Tile Museum is a priceless resource and...

Interesting medium sized museum organised as a one way walk-through. Plenty of opportunities to stop along the way and spend as much time as you wish reading the information boards. No guides as such. Manufacturing is still taking place downstairs but only glimpsed through closed doors. Feel that Jackfield maybe missing a trick here as Wedgwood in Stoke is far more interactive. I would have loved to have seen some tiles being made - even if for only a quick ten minutes demonstration. Jackfield's strength is the superb breadth of it's gorgeous exhibits but I left with the overwhelming feeling that I'd missed out on seeing the core process in action. At Blist's Hill you see wood being engraved, lessons being taught and posters being printed. Nice clean cafe with good coffee. A separate business across the courtyard appeared to be offering tile...

A favourite museum of ours. Explore the history of tile making and decorating from Roman and Byzantine mosaics to the heyday of the Victorian era. Learn how tiles were produced and see how they adorned houses, shops, churches, hospitals and the London Underground. Great full scale exhibits. Housed in the old factory. Beautiful examples of William Morris tiles and their settings. A must for art lovers and anyone who appreciates good design and superb quality. Super-friendly staff. Clean and well organised. With a cafe and a shop selling products. Summer holiday workshops allow you a chance to design and paint your own tile. We did ours in 2011 but we will go back again this summer...

Enormous collection of decorative tiles. Many art works displayed perfectly in room after room. Large collection of encaustic tiles (decorated by “burning in” colours as an inlay using coloured clays) and an extensive collection of timeless geometric designs, artistic individual tiles, large colourful decorative tile panels, elaborate and protruding relief designs, entire rooms such as a tiled butchers, a pub, an underground station tunnel with train sound effects, highly desirable art deco tiles including high lustre technical finished tiles, islamic art inspired tiles and more…Most definitely worth the drive - a world class collection of decorative tiles.

Fantastic experience, very well laid out. Friendly and helpful staff. We had a great visit, I use a mobility scooter and my daughter uses a wheelchair. We we able to see almost everything. The one thing we would suggest is Subtitles and BSL Interpretation on the videos. Apart from that one suggestion it was a first class experience. We had cake and drinks in the cafe which were really delicious and again very helpful and friendly staff member! Definitely worth a visit. I would suggest if you are visiting more than one museum in Ironbridge, get the year pass, it is well worth it.
