Roath Park opened in 1894 and was one of the first public parks in Cardiff and features the Scott Memorial Lighthouse on the lake which is one of Cardiff’s iconic images. Roath Park is great for a relaxing walk, to sit down and just take in the peace and quiet (and listen to the birds) or for the kids to do some outdoor activities. There is seating every few yards around the entire park so your never short of a seat with a view of the lake or flower beds. All areas of the park are on level or sloped ground with no steps, making it completely wheelchair friendly. There are two 'main entrances' on either side of the park which has an ice cream van at one most days, and at the other there is an ice cream kiosk. There are of course several other entrances around the park. There are 2 public conveniences, with one situated next to the flower garden and the other at the main entrance (next to the ice cream van) and both have ramped access for wheelchairs and those that find steps challenging. Note, for the handicapped toilets you will need a RADAR key to gain access.

There is also a cafeteria situated next to the main entrance (by the ice cream kiosk) overlooking the boating lake. This restaurant is not always open so your advised to check times before travelling. There are currently no boating facilities available at the time of writing this review.

There is a large gated area for kids to play including slides, swings, climbing frames etc. There is also a crazy golf and trampolines (for children only) which incur a small charge.

Other facilities include a conservatory which is open for self-guided tours (chargeable)

The park is open from 7:30am until 30 minutes before sunset. This is a...

Roath Park is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Cardiff, Wales. This sprawling urban park offers an enchanting escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike.

The park's centerpiece, the Roath Park Lake, is a tranquil oasis surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowerbeds. The swans gracefully gliding on the water add to the park's idyllic charm, creating a picturesque scene that's perfect for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing boat ride.

The park's conservatory is a horticultural wonder, housing a diverse collection of plants and flowers that captivate visitors with their beauty and fragrance. It's a delightful spot to escape to, especially during colder months when the outdoor scenery may not be as vibrant.

This park offers a delightful experience centred around its picturesque lake, where you can often observe elegant swans gliding across the water and various geese waddling along the banks or swimming nearby. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere these birds bring.

For families, the park boasts a fun-filled playground equipped with various features to keep children entertained. You might find swings, slides, climbing frames, and perhaps even more unique play structures, providing a space for active play and imaginative adventures.

Adding to the recreational activities, boat hire facilities are available on the lake. This allows visitors to enjoy the water from a different perspective, perhaps taking a leisurely row or pedalo ride. It’s a fantastic way to appreciate the scenery and get a bit of exercise at the same time.

To ensure convenience for all visitors, the park also provides toilet access. These facilities are typically located in a central area and are often signposted within the park grounds.

So, whether you're enjoying a peaceful walk by the lake, watching the wildlife, letting the children burn off some energy in the playground, or taking to the water in a rented boat, this park offers a well-rounded outdoor experience with essential amenities like...

Recently visited this beautiful park and I must say, I was blown away by the beauty and serenity of the place. The park is well-maintained and has a lovely mix of greenery, trees, and flowers. The grass is lush and soft, perfect for a picnic or simply lounging around. The park is spacious and has plenty of room for people to move around, play games, or take a stroll. I noticed that there were many families with children enjoying themselves, which was lovely to see. The park also has a playground for kids, which seemed to be a hit among the little ones. The park's location is convenient, as it is situated close to many shops and restaurants, making it an ideal spot to relax after a day of shopping or sightseeing. The park has benches and tables scattered throughout, making it easy to find a spot to sit down and enjoy the scenery. One of the things that impressed me the most was the cleanliness of the park. I didn't see any litter or trash lying around, which made me feel good about the environment and the people who visit the park. Overall, I highly recommend this park to anyone who is looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to spend some time outdoors. Whether you're alone, with friends, or with family, this park has something for everyone.

Roath Park in Cardiff is one of those rare places that feels both lively and peaceful, making it perfect for almost any mood. The moment you arrive, the lake is the first thing that captures your attention, with its iconic white lighthouse standing proudly at the center. Walking around the water is a refreshing experience, whether you’re there for exercise, to clear your mind, or simply to admire the swans and geese that glide past. What makes the park special is its variety. The rose gardens in the summer are a burst of color and fragrance, while the greenhouse adds an exotic twist with tropical plants and koi fish. Families love it because there’s plenty of space for children to run around, while fitness enthusiasts take advantage of the circular path for jogging or cycling. On sunny days, rowing boats on the lake bring an extra layer of charm. Despite being so close to the city, Roath Park has a calming, almost timeless feel. Whether you’re taking a slow stroll, having a picnic, or just watching the sunset reflect on the water, it’s a spot that never disappoints. It’s not just a park, it’s a slice of Cardiff’s heart.
