Roath Park opened in 1894 and was one of the first public parks in Cardiff and features the Scott Memorial Lighthouse on the lake which is one of Cardiff’s iconic images. Roath Park is great for a relaxing walk, to sit down and just take in the peace and quiet (and listen to the birds) or for the kids to do some outdoor activities. There is seating every few yards around the entire park so your never short of a seat with a view of the lake or flower beds. All areas of the park are on level or sloped ground with no steps, making it completely wheelchair friendly. There are two 'main entrances' on either side of the park which has an ice cream van at one most days, and at the other there is an ice cream kiosk. There are of course several other entrances around the park. There are 2 public conveniences, with one situated next to the flower garden and the other at the main entrance (next to the ice cream van) and both have ramped access for wheelchairs and those that find steps challenging. Note, for the handicapped toilets you will need a RADAR key to gain access.
There is also a cafeteria situated next to the main entrance (by the ice cream kiosk) overlooking the boating lake. This restaurant is not always open so your advised to check times before travelling. There are currently no boating facilities available at the time of writing this review.
There is a large gated area for kids to play including slides, swings, climbing frames etc. There is also a crazy golf and trampolines (for children only) which incur a small charge.
Other facilities include a conservatory which is open for self-guided tours (chargeable)
The park is open from 7:30am until 30 minutes before sunset. This is a...
