Parking is free.... But not if you park over 2 hours! See the sign? Most people I spoke to have missed it!

Register your car at museum reception and they'll give you a ticket to display, then you can park all day if your there!

Great place to bring the children, as there's 2 play areas to choose, a nice garden area, and another that has park benches and plenty of room for your picnic.

Museum is free with a suggested donation of £3. Well worth a visit.

At time of writing, June 2019, there's an exhibition of Police Dogs. No stuffed animals here!

Upstairs is a display with British bird and some animals you may see in your garden (they are stuffed!). The bees are hard at work, and that's fascinating to watch.

Display downstairs still has some interactive items about electric and magnetic items, but they could do with a bit of a overhaul as not working too well. All said and done it's a great place to get the kids imagination going.

Last but not least, the café is open. Scrummy food, so will definitely be back but without the kids next time to take more time to...

A fantastic local museum that puts many others to shame. It's a huge venue with a lot to see and take in - many displays for all periods of history. I especially liked the fact there's a honey bee hive and that you can sit and watch the bees come and go through channels in the building to the outside!

The building is large and magnificent, and it's set in some lovely green grounds that are nice to walk around too. The K9 memorial statue is situated in the grounds if you want to pay your respects to fallen police dogs.

It's well worth setting aside an hour or two to fully absorb what's on offer in this museum. It's clearly been well thought out and is well maintained. There's no need to book tickets, it's free to visit, simply turn up during opening hours.

The gift shop at the end is brilliant too, stocking some local food and craft items alongside the usual memorabilia you find at museums, with friendly staff on hand to serve you.

Fantastic place, highly...

A lovely, free to access museum situated within the beautiful grounds of Oaklands Park. It's got a great selection of local history to see and interact with. The kids especially like the live bees hive they have on the first floor that allows access through the exterior wall. (The bees have been here since I was a little girl too, yet the museum has come along way over the years). They have a small museum shop at the entrance too, aswell as a donation box. There's free parking on site, although beware on weekdays there's a limited parking time allowance of two hours. With public toilets nearby and an excellent cafe with inside seating and outside tables to enjoy the sunshine, whilst overlooking the large parks situated at the back, you can easily enjoy a cuppa whilst keeping an eye on the children. This all makes for a lovely, low cost afternoon out with the family on...
