This is a surprisingly large park centred round the Chelmsford Museum. Quiet first thing in the morning so parking not a problem – may not be the case later in the day. Popular with dog walkers as there is a lot of space, there is also an early morning exercise group. Looked a good place to take children with a separate sectioned off play area.

Very well maintained gardens with plenty of landmarks ands what i presume is free to use facilities like the park and tennis court. People found their way into the court anyway. Dog friendly, family friendly, couples friendly, walking friendly. Ill come again when the museums open.

First time to this park for decades but what a pleasure to return. It's hardly changed in years, needs a little love and time spent on it but the climbing apparatus was great and lots of castle themed activities to use your imagination with. My granddaughter loved it.

Nestled next to the museum, Oaklands Park stands out as a beacon of recreation and enjoyment in Chelmsford. What sets it apart is its thoughtful design, featuring not one, but two playgrounds tailored to different age groups. With a dedicated area for small kids up to age 6 and another for older children up to age 12, every visit promises a diverse range of activities and adventures.

Living just next door, Oaklands Park has become an integral part of our daily routine. My son and I eagerly anticipate our visits, knowing that regardless of the season, there's always something special to experience. From the vibrant energy of summer days to the serene charm of winter afternoons, the park's flexible timings ensure that families can enjoy its offerings year-round.

Beyond its playgrounds, Oaklands Park boasts sprawling green spaces perfect for picnics, leisurely strolls, or simply basking in nature's beauty. It's a sanctuary where memories are made, friendships blossom, and the joys of childhood are celebrated. As a parent, witnessing my son's laughter and excitement amidst the park's enchanting ambiance reaffirms Oaklands Park's status as one of Chelmsford's premier destinations...

Mid sized park with 2 play areas, one for up to age 12 or so has a zip line, the only one in the area as far as I know, other one for smaller children, they are totally separate, which is good. The park/play area is round the back of the house which is a museum, only half open atm due to revamp, it will have a cafe when it's finished too. Front on the house is a large lawn with picnic benches and the Sebastapol cannon on the right hand side, your not supposed to climb on it, generations have ! The museum has many special event days for children, the yearly teddy bears picnic is...

Lovely park in quiet corner of the city. Beautifully kept lawn in front of old house for picnics, with some benches also. Play equipment to rear for kids, suitable for a wide range of ages. Large field at rear for ball games plus tennis courts. The house has an interesting local museum, free entry, just make a contribution. Budget about two hours. House also has a nice cafe. Never have an issue parking...
