Wow! This was an experience of a lifetime! This is an Edinburgh must-do.. more so than the castle! The history and the associated stories were incredible but our tour guide Ryan really brought it to a whole new level! Seriously, someone from Broadway should recruit Ryan! We did the Double Dead Tour and it was hands down the best 2 hours of our entire vacation this far! At first, it may seem a little morbid to do a tour like this. But, the reality is that Scotland was a rough and brutal place to live hundreds of years ago and the underground was one of the most miserable places to live. Bad stuff happened and the underground was sealed off for what was supposed to be forever and forgotten about. This tour unseals the history of those people who suffered with exciting ghost stories to accompany. The underground of Edinburgh is a first hand archeological encounter with a fascinating history of the city. After the underground experience, we made our way to a historically significant graveyard that has been preserved beautifully with the assistance of the tour company's donations and minimizing foot traffic through the area. Again, we got to hear some fascinating accounts of Scotland's and Edinburgh's dark history. Finally...Ryan! I can't speak for the other guides but Ryan is the most enthusiastic guide we've ever had! He kept his audience engaged in the experience instead of just regurgitating a script. He really brought the City of the Dead experience to life... pun intended. Seeing the historic spaces in Edinburgh was amazing on its own but we felt that Ryan was the true cornerstone to making the entire night fun, educational, and memorable!

The tour was disappointing. I thought it was a real “underground city,” but it turned out to be just four empty dark rooms where we listened to the guide tell stories for an hour and a half. Even though the guide was very enthusiastic in explaining, it was still hard to rely on imagination to enjoy ghost stories. I later found out that if you’re truly interested in the underground city, you should go to The Real Mary King’s Close across the street. This time, we were completely misled by Google Maps—what a shame, as it wasted part of our trip for 1.5-2h and I bought 4 tickets for whole family!

I've wanted to explore this place for years and was so excited to go, well worth it. No flash photography and very dark and spooky. You can stop the flash and simply take dark photos with a steady hand. I'd encourage it as you may get surprised by what you find later on! The cobbler will likely grab someone by the ankle, the little boy shows up next to kids and the watcher is lurking. Of note, he did scratch my kids face which wasn't cool but overall I'd go again and again.

One of the best thing to do in Edinburgh is to go for Underground Vault tours. The history and it's narration is excellent. I visited Edinburgh second time and it made me start to love the City more. They have excellent tour services with online booking and starting the tour at the most convenient locations. Moreover their guides are excellent. My tour guide Joshua is one of the most entertaining narrator for these tours with elements of comedy, history and drama! I don't think anybody else can make it so interesting. I would like to do this tour again someday because of the excellent...
