Called in at this lovely little, dog-friendly, pub on the outskirts of Coniston for a latish lunch on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Recently re-furbished to a high standard, the interior is smart and comfortable, and the welcome was friendly and as warm as the open fire. The menu is varied and reasonably priced, we had fish (Cod) chips and peas, a the Pie of the Day which was Chicken and Mushroom. Both arrived quickly, and with a smile. Portion sizes were generous, I don’t think I’ve ever seen more chicken in a pie, and the food was hot and delicious. Two main courses and drinks came to less than £40, which, given the quality, is very reasonable these days. I can see this place becoming a regular stop on our visits to the Lake District.

Came here for a Xmas eve meal with my partner and chose the Xmas menu. Pigs in blankets with cheese dough twists served on arrival with fizz, followed by two courses of our choice. I had the ham hock terrine for stater, my partner had the smoked salmon and beetroot. For mains we had cod served with samphire and my partner opted for the pork. There was option to make it 3 courses, but we were so full! Absolutely amazing meal, great value for money as it felt like the food was on the high end restaurant scale, not just pub food! Clearly they have invested in a great chef here. Finally, all of the staff were fantastic and it really added to the atmosphere of the evening. 10/10!

After walking around of Coniston we felt ready for a beer, and what could be better than a traditional local Pub. The Ship it is a charming place, with nice staff and rustic environment, whrn we arrived there was a group of local musicians playing particular music that for us was really attractive as a tourists. we did not order food so I can't say something about that, but the beers and the time spended there it was really nice. 👌🏻

A very disappointing experience. We booked a cottage next door to this pub as we have been before and always found it to be very good. Sadly this has now changed. Food is not always available. No notice outside to advise about this, so left and cooked our own food in the cottage. The second time we tried, we booked and ordered our food at around 6.15pm. At 7.15pm we asked if our food was coming. We were told that there had been a lot of orders before 7pm. We continued to wait with staff giving no eye contact as they walked past. It was starting to feel very awkward and unwelcoming. Eventually at around 7.30 a lady came to tell us our order had been lost. The only food available at this point was fish and chips as everything else was sold out. We were offered one meal free, so agreed to this. The food arrived at 7.45. Unbelievably the fish was very burnt and completely inedible. As a diabetic I was starting to feel unwell with low blood sugar so had to leave. My husband ate a few chips and then went to the bar to pay. The barman asked for payment for our drinks only and apologised. The experience left us feeling aweful. At no point were we rude or unreasonable. We were staying literally next door and felt uncomfortable walking past every day. We didn't try a 3rd time as felt too uncomfortable to go back in. So sad. A simple knock on our door to apologise the next day and to check on my well being would have been enough. We may even have been tempted to try a 3rd time. Our custom was...

Been before many times and loved it. All now very ill, think we have food poisonibg. Popped in at 4pm on Wednesday to see if could book table. Told no table bookings just turn up and grab a table. Went back at 7pm total carnage. Got told off for taking a seat that someone else was waiting for. Queued at bar to get drink and name added to table list. Nothing advising you have to request table at the bar! Also sign on road says food to 9pm when it's 8pm. Didn't realize so difficult to change a 9 to an 8! Waited outside for half and hour to go back in to ask if table ready. Pointed out people just walked in and sat down when I was told off for doing that. Told they were short staffed but it obviously profit over product. Had meals and lovely, just all seemed rushed when waiting ages for food. Then it started for all of us in middle of night and yesterday. So I'll. Being busy and understaffed doesn't mean you can cut corners and make people ill. Why don't you stop take aways and tell people to book table at bar before they walk in. Then you can manage the ability to meet customers needs with your staffing shortages. Thanks for ruining our holiday! FYI I will report to environmental health as ask doctors to refer as well next week and message them as classic...

We visited the lake district for 5 days away and stayed near the lakes, we found a pub around 3 miles away called the ship inn. So first time we found a walk which we planned around visiting the pub after our walk. First time we had a few drinks and a selection of crisps and pork scratchings which were absolutely superb snack selection and drinks. The pub itself is absolutely stunning inside and out. It's dog friendly. Safe to say we then came to the pub daily and visited it four times on our trip. We tried most things on the menu-the food is fantastic, lovely pub food, the garlic bread and garlic prawns were my absolute favourite. My husband loved the pie and the burgers on offer. Puddings it had my absolute favourite sticky toffee pudding-would say one of the best I had, could easily top my own cooked! The owners are so friendly and very welcoming. The seating inside is comfortable, the drinks are great. The whole atmosphere is lovely. We will definitely be back as it was my favourite pub! Thank you for making our visit even better! If you wanted to have a lovely walk and end or start with great pub drinks and food then don't look any further than...
