Visted for a special local schools production. Customer service when booking the tickets was excellent, incredibly helpful on the phone. Unfortunatly thats the best part. Parking was difficult because of the amount of cars, leaving afterwards was a nightmare with the chaos of too many cars leaving at the same time and converging on one small mini roundabout. The theatre itself is incredibly tired, old and badly set up. The lift we were told to avoid due to it keep breaking down and unfortunatly we were sat in the upper circle seats, so lots of stairs with an elderly grandmother. The Upper Circle has incredibly restricted viewing and seating was so tight with no leg room. These seats really do need renewing, very cramped and uncomfortable with access being almost impossible without asking the whole row to stand up and squeeze in. Not sure if it was just a busier than normal evening but service at the bar was incredibly slow and the foyer area was so full that even finding an area for standing was difficult, this was not helped by the huge amount of marketing stands etc that were taking up valuable floor space. This could be a great venue and looks like it has plenty of shows bringing in the money, maybe some of it though needs spending on bringing it up to 21st...
Read moreI was invited to watch a show called "That'll be the Day" in the Hawth and that was my first ever visit Our seats were front row and I was dreading the noise sitting directly in front of a speaker however that fear was dispelled immediately when the show started. Its a lovely compact theatre and without any doubt I will be returning for other shows that I would like to see in the future Our Show was slightly delayed due to late rehearsals and the Hawth staff kept us fully informed at all times. Bar facilities are normal for theaters of a similar size the bar staff on duty were polite and efficent Usual drinks on offer and as is the normal nowadays much more expensive than outside. Card only payments No cash. Well organised interval drinks laid out and collected with your numbered reciept saving time in the queue. Toilets are easily accessible however when we were there it seamed that there was a permanent queue for the ladies. It looked to be OK for Wheelchair access throughout the building All in all a pleasant first visit and as said before I'm sure I will return. The Show "That'll Be The Day" was a sellout and was absolutely brilliant great music and comedy... fully recommend a visit when it returns you won't be disappointed either in the venue...
Read moreThe Hawth has changed over the years and I went back to purposely see my old theatre group in their production of Grease. The production was fantastic and my friend and I loved it. The theatre itself was mote airy than previous visits due go the opening up of the end room which is now part of the restaurant and pizzeria. Personally I am not a fan of the prepayment drinks and everything to be paid by card. When I received the email from the Hawth saying they were cashless I was disappointed. A big venue like this should still give customers the choice especially those who are not technically minded or elderly. I think Personally going this way 100% without a slow introduction is a bad mistake. I think to pay for programmes with cash which luckily I could but I think when it comes to paying for items under £5 or £10 the choice should be there and not restricted to card only. The Hawth could do with investing in more ladies toilets again this issue throughout the years has never even resolved and also unfortunately some of the atmosphere has seemed to have gone from the place. For a sell put matinee the foyer was empty at times. Overall a good visit but u do feel the place has lost that independent homely feeling...
