I often buy books from your for-sale display. It seems like a good action by the library to return those books that are no longer of interest to lenders, back to the community. Implied is an intention to offer a book that is of some benefit and use to the buyer, receiving something of value in return for the sum charged. What I do not understand is why the books are purposely damaged before offering them for sale. I looked at the books I bought a couple of days ago, after returning home, and almost every book had the first page ripped away from the book, sometimes causing damage to the binding.
It is very hard to understand how someone who works with books, with the purpose of transferring that knowledge to the readers, could bring themselves to cause damage to a book like this. It seems utterly opposite to the purpose of their job at the library. Undoubtedly there will be some kind of explanation, such as wishing to remove the lending label affixed to the first leaf of the book (why, I cannot imagine), but is it necessary to cause so much damage to the books? Can the label be carefully removed without tearing away the whole page too, and in some cases that page is the Title Page? Surely it would achieve the presumed result if the library staff simply ink-stamp the lending label with WITHDRAWN, or ran a marker over the label. I cannot see why there is such a need to remove the lending label, as there is nothing confidential about it, and anyone with a computer could very quickly reproduce a library label if they so wished.
Can I ask you to review this wanton damage...
Read moreLast month on a Wednesday I was on a day trip to Crawley with my 6 month old son and while I was in the town centre I got my phone stolen out of my pocket in a worry i thought ill go to the library for help to ring my partner and the man on the counter was very rude and unhelpful l, he let me use the phone but he said I could only have one call as I would hold up the line. I needed to two calls one to get my partner number and two to call him so obviously was upset I couldn't make second call, in a panic I was crying and had to go to the cafe in the library and the man who worked in the cafe was soo helpful and let me use his phone as long as I needed to. I was very grateful to him. Because of this I will not be going back to the library in a rush with my son. Very...
Read moreI have been a member of this library for a number of years, I’ve never had any major issues. Today on the 2nd floor at the front desk I asked if I could borrow a black marker or perhaps purchase. I was told I would not be able to just in case I was to use it for graffiti puroporses on the desk. I find this ridiculous as do the staff check every individual when they enter if they have a black marker pen!? In all honestly the lady behind the desk was just being unhelpful. Annoyed as it’s such a small gesture that could of helped but instead I will walk over to WHSmiths and purchase one instead and bring it over to complete my work.
Ridiculous.... if you want to be miserable and unhelpful perhaps not work with...
