The old yarn market of Dunster, many of the timbers are hundreds of years old, the original structure dating to c.1607 and rebuilt in 1647. Curiously the later day replaced timbers are showing woodworm where as the older timbers don’t. This is because the trees used in the original build were of great age as compared to today’s trees that are felled, woodworm don’t like inner old growth hard woods, only the softer newer growth.

This is managed by English heritage not national trust. Built in the early 17th century, this historic structure in the heart of Dunster is charming and well-preserved. It offers a glimpse into the village's trading past. Quite a short attraction, some information by the side. Very close to car parking and shops.

A beautiful historic timber building set within the heart of the medieval town of Dunster. There are history panels to read within the building and links to the castle at the top of the hill. Parking is available nearby on an hour or longer which is free or in the nearby car park which is a pay and display.

The historical yarn market at the other end of the main street and castle is a beautiful building to think about the way it was built all by hand. Its unusual stone centre column that supports the double pitched roof and the mortice and tenoned joints every thing about this place is great. Stayed in st George Street and walked the dogs for the last walk of the day,and made a stop there. and the quietness of dunster was...

We were amazed at the level of preservation that's been maintained with this tiny little Market Square attraction. This is a very useful little place to sit on a hot day I'm sure.

A little note about parking. Parking here is Ltd to only 1 hour. That is, apart from a Sunday, where you can park all day without restriction. You're then making a saving if you want to go...
