We attended Dunster by Candlelight and wanted to eat out whilst we were there. Having looked up reviews, Google gave this place 5.0 out of 81 reviews. For a restaurant, this was an exceptionally high score, so we booked. Following the initial voicemail message, Reeves phoned back to ask our menu choices for this special meal. We expected to pay a deposit, but none was required. We were impressed at the attention to detail before the evening. This was mirrored in the high staffing levels, the superb quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff on the evening itself. There were hor d’oeuvres on the table when we arrived, our starter was duck egg Florentine which was great, I had chicken supreme with pasta; hubbie had the beef wellington (I did try a little and it was lovely). I left some of my lovely pasta to do justice to my dessert: lavender and (something) mousse – delicious. Hubbie had the chocolate torte, very rich and not sweet - he enjoyed it very much. Coffee and a petit four finished us off. We had glasses of prosecco and wine, and the choices were good, they complemented the food really well. For what we had (quality and quantity), I thought the cost was reasonable. We will return next time we visit Dunster. I have also posted this review on...
Read moreA fabulous location, on the cobbled high street in Dunster, with a castle at the bottom of the road.
There is parking opposite which is free (but can be busy) and the main Dunster carpark is just a short stroll away.
We went for dinner and recieved a warm welcome from the staff and the ambience was cosy and comfortable. The tables are also nicely laid out.
Pre dinner drinks are offered and olives and bread brought to the table while you peruse the exciting menu.
The choice is good and prices varied, so there is something for every pocket and taste. Each dish has nice accompaniments, are interesting, delicious and beautifully presented.
The quality is excellent and we made our way through 3 wonderful courses. Throughout, the restaurant team (and owner) are making sure everyone has what they need and are comfortable.
We're not too keen on the on line booking systems but Reeves' was easy to use and sent a reminder the day before. As this seems to be a family run business, it makes sense to free up the staff from answering the phone and concentrate on delivering their top notch service.
A definate must for a special meal but be prepared to book in advance, as we can now see why Reeves...
Read moreWe had a great evening at Claire and Justin Reeve’s restaurant recently. They are easily reached on the road into Dunster Castle. Access was easy- we used the large public parking lot which was a 4 minute walk down the road and is free to use after 6 PM which was perfect for us. The restaurant is intimate and low key just like we find Somerset, and the servers are attentive and friendly. The starter and main courses were delicious, and the main courses were quite generous. Each dish was presented really nicely and as a special touch each main courses arrived under a metal dome cover. It’s a brief trip from the kitchen, but all the same it made for a subtle but agreeable difference in having our first tastes at cooking temperature. Two of us had the lamb rump which was tender, tasteful and done just as we’d asked for. One of us had the halibut in an asparagus cream and accompanied by fresh green beans and potatoes and cream and it too was very satisfying. Claire and Justin have a top notch product and we will definitely be back when we’re in the area. We were able to book the day before, and after such a great evening we will book...
