A recent visit to Dunster Castle brought us to discover this Victorian tea room and we vowed to return. Today was that day. I called ahead and booked at table for two. When we arrived, we entered through the back entrance that led out to the Nation Trust car park of Dunster Castle. Handy as I'm a member so parking was free. The immediate impression was that this place had character. A typical well kept English tea garden. Beautiful and full of life. We made our way through to the servery and announced our arrival. Luckily there was ample space for us to choose our seats, and we chose a table for two in the back garden, tucked nicely under the veranda of the main building. Very cosy, romantic and fresh. On this occasion we chose afternoon tea, and we weren't disappointed. The waitress dutifully took our choices for the sandwiches, cakes and scones, and of course drinks. (We chose the coffee option instead of tea) The menu was actually very good. It was clear, full of choice for all dietary options. A clear allergy reference was included. We didn't wait lthat ong, (the menu does explain that each dish is made to order so delivery may take a little longer. A nice touch as expectations are set, and disappointment avoided. Simple and effective) and our afternoon tea was served up and looked lovely. Tasty, fresh sandwiches. Fruity, flavoursome , moist cakes. Perfectly hard/soft scones, and a jam & clotted cream to match. No complaints here. All I'm all, a very nice experience and I would recommend a visit. Dog friendly too.

Lovely little tea room full of history. As it was a very wet January afternoon it wasn't busy But can be very busy in the summer. The choices for this afternoon tea are to long to mention, but I can say there should be something for everyone. The place is clean and tidy and our waitress was friendly and attentive without being over the top. All homemade cakes and scones and if my trousers could have taken the strain I would have loved to have tasted another slice so that will have to be done another day ! Highly recommended and value for the money.

Great tea room with both indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Pretty gardens and quaint court yard. The menu had a nice selection of hot and cold foods and drinks. Our party of 7 were having cream teas. There is a good selection of scones with tea or coffee. I had the cherry scone which was warm, fresh and delicious. The tea was plentiful enough for 3/4 cups. Service was prompt and staff very friendly and efficient. I would definitely revisit and recommend to others.

I came here for a quick sandwich lunch pit stop. The most expensive sandwiches I’ve bought in a long time. At a whopping £9 my sandwich consisted of cheddar; ridiculously thick slabs your have to try to chew your way around w butter, when asked if I could have a pickle or chutney with it, I was told I would be charged extra! The salad consists of cheap iceberg lettuce, a sprinkle of grated carrot and 2 slices of cucumber, coleslaw and some crisps on the side. I also bought a Brie and cranberry, sounded delicious but again the Brie is huge slices, and not much flavour at all which makes me wonder if it’s a cheap one. Both an absolute rip off at £9 each. It’s very frustrating dogs are not allowed to sit inside, so we sat outside with the pouring rain dripping off the umbrella onto us and wasps all around our food. Many other restaurants in the area let dogs inside. The service was ok but simply ok, I had my toddler and baby and with menus on the table after a while I was asked to order. I was only given children’s menus after requesting them at this point, it would have been nice for the children to have been noticed and to have received them on arrival. There seemed to be plenty of staff, however only one lady who seemed to take control of taking orders and sorting the bills, unfortunately this means the other staff just hang around in the kitchen until needed for serving and you’re waiting a while whilst the lady exhaustingly zips between tables, making the atmosphere not that relaxing. Would be more efficient if other staff were allowed to do more. I’m a local but unfortunately won’t...

If I could give this place no stars I would. It's frustrating that the other people on here reviewing had such a great service when mine was practically no existent. The staff were clearly understaffed but the main issue I had was that my family and I weren't really treated like customers. If they had issue with staffing then come over and tell us, and that they'd be with us ASAP. We waited 20 mins to get served but that was only because we went over to the kitchen to ask for service. The tea came quickly but then the scones that we ordered never came despite us going up to the kitchen a further two times to request it. We then started to make a fuss now that our whole time had been an hour with them. Other customers are getting food who arrived later than us. The chief waitress - is the title I'll give her - apologised and said that she will give us more teas on the house and get the scones for us now. As our order was for cream teas, expecting scones and tea together. Two mins later, she comes back and says that the manager will not allow the teas on the house and that the scones will have to wait a further 10 minutes. We walked out without making a payment.

Can categorically say this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Please don't think I'm going over the top, it...
