For the last 4 months I have been house sitting on a spot that overlooks Spout Yard Park.
In the winter I wondered whether anyone would ever be using it.
But now that spring is on its way de park comes to life. It’s lovely to see how the playgrounds are being used by a variety of children, on their own or with parents/carers. How the tables are used for playing cards or having your lunch. How relaxing it is sitting in the sun on one of the benches.
I am very impressed by all the volunteers that keep the park so well run and tidy. The dedication with which the garden is kept (rain and cold no problem). And one very cold Monday morning (and therefore their Co-op shirts were hardly visible) a dedicated group turned up to thoroughly clean every structure in the park.
I will miss this view now that I’m leaving my house sit.
Thank you all and please, keep up...
Read moreSpout Yard is an open space open to the public but it is not a public park. It is a volunteer, community run garden open from 9.00am approximately to dusk. The gates are padlocked at other hours and often in bad weather. It borders the River Lud and sometimes has open exhibitions in a small modern building which sometimes sells coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. It has pretty herbaceous plants and lawns so you can relax with a picnic. Access is an invitation and the volunteers who live immediately next to it and expect that no-one spoils the park or the ambience by misbehaving. The park has a sunny aspect and some chairs and benches and some good views of St James'...
