A local spot for running, dog walking, cycling and walking. It has been developed over a number of years and you can see some great additions to the site. When it first opened a small. 'car park' with a non connected walk, now there's a good two circular walks you can do linking it all the way to Branston - from the car park you can easily walk to place such as Riverside inn pub and back, however this is weather permitting as the fields local can get rather flooded. You can also park there and it's a short walk into Walton on trent over the Bailey Bridge ( Swan pub is lovely for a bite to eat with outdoor space too) . A lovely walk around on part 'fine gravel' and grass. Some areas are fences off to protect the wildlife. The area has newly placed Bird watching spots, some wooden post art with birds on, and some platform bird watching spots. There's also a bin at the front of the car park near the barriers to dispose of dog poo and rubbish. There's no wait on site however at times the car park...
Read moreWe were lucky as it was a very warm and dry day when we did our visit as there is no protection from the elements in any form if the weather was anything but perfect. When you arrive you park for free in a gravel car park right next to the first lake. If you take the path to the left side of the car park you will be able to walk the whole length of the reserve. Even though it is not officially advised at the furthest point on the second lake would be a great place just to cool your feet off as it feels like a little beach. Please bear in mind that as of 2022 this this reserve is only 3 years old so it is still establishing its self and the wildlife will need time to adapt to the surroundings. Please note that there is some noise from the trains that run right next to the reserve from time to time but generally it was a...
Read moreThis is a huge (roughly 5 mile) walk, adjacent to the A38. It’s free parking, though it is slightly limited if the weather is nice. There’s one large bin, located at the entrance to the car park. There are two large lakes with several bird watching points. Swans, geese, coots, snipes and sand martins- amongst others are to be seen. It’s a big walk about and it’s really calming. Watch out for lots of dog walkers and unfortunately some dog poo dotted about. The whole walk isn’t flat, so buggy walkers and those with limited movement might struggle. End of the day, this is beautiful spot...
