The new licensees of the Barton Turns have quickly made it my favourite pub in Barton. They have focussed on providing an interesting range of guest beers outside of the normal 'fare' found in Marston's pubs, and this has been very popular amongst my friends. Whilst they initially stated their intention to focus on beer over food, as they have become established they have extended their food offering with delicious home-cooked snacks which ideally complement their beers. An internal decoration programme is underway; this appear to be being done in a manner that is sensitive to the pub's origins and location. What a very pleasant surprise to discover that someone had at last recognised its potential and made such a wonderful job of the place. The excellent food, lovely surroundings and warm welcoming atmosphere make it a great place to visit and is to be highly recommended. However, the bar area is very small and disappointingly seems to be always full of customers who stand at the bar drinking (and reading a newspaper!), making it very difficult when ordering food and drink. Read moreIt has been a few years since we visited the Barton Turns (our last visit was not brilliant). However, a friend said how lovely it was, so we gave it a try.
The pub was decorated for the VE Day commemoration and was very welcoming. The Landlord, Landlady and all the staff made us feel as though we should be there and not first time visitors.
They do very simple food well, cobs, pies and weekend specials. Fresh pork scratchings were fab.
We have since been back two more times and hope to make this pub our “local” even though we are a little bit of a drive away. Need I say more! ...
