Chalkwell Beach is one of my favourite spots in Southend-on-Sea. I often come here on weekends to relax, sunbathe, and walk along the shore. The beach is clean and spacious, with a lovely view across the Thames Estuary. At low tide, there’s plenty of room to stroll, and at high tide, the water is inviting for a refreshing dip.

What I really love is the calm and peaceful atmosphere – it’s the perfect place to clear your mind and let go of stress. Just sitting by the sea, listening to the waves, always makes me feel refreshed. The promenade is great for a leisurely walk, and there are cafés nearby if you fancy a tea, coffee, or ice cream.

Whether you’re with family, friends, or just looking for a quiet moment by yourself, Chalkwell Beach is a wonderful choice. It’s a place that always makes my weekends brighter and helps...

I have been coming to Southend since I was a wee lad. I'm 50 now, whenever we came we would check out the bright lights of the main drag. I remember the boy racers tearing up the seafront. The bass heads in the car park and fish and chips. We never ventured past the busy part of town. Today I visited Leigh on Sea and got the Google maps out to see where the coast was so I could look at the water and replenish my energy. The closest place was Chalkwell beach. I didn't even know it was in Southend. What a pleasant surprise. Away from all the noise plenty of space to walk, much more peaceful place to visit. From now Southend for me will be this beach. Ps...

Some grumpy stinker calls police to ruin our picnic where we were respectful of the surroundings and didn’t cause any nonsense. Kudos to police guy for staying cool but doing his job well. Couldn’t do bbq while everyone else literally does it here every other sunny weekend. Anyways, can’t do bbq here and the lack of common sense of our fellow bimbo citizens are to blame. Shame coz the view is actually nice and everyone was sensible & wouldn’t cause any disturbance to anyone. Beware there are no signs that bbq...

Nice beach, pebbles everywhere so not for a sandy beach day but the sea had very little pebbles so was easy to walk on and sea was clear enough and was warm after the sun had been on it for a while. Wonderfully easy to get to from London travelled on the train down and the station was a 2 minute walk away from the beach. Only one food place nearby and shut way before dinner timings. Toilets are good for a beach each one separate. Had a really good day out here.

Beach was very good with public toilets. We visited in September 2020, the beach was good, a bit stony but there was sand. In the morning the tide was in, but by the evening it the sea was miles away. They have an open shallow salt water pool thing; once the tide was gone there was a pool area. Everyone was socially distanced and the public toilets were quite clean and maintained. If you get there early there is parking but midday is luck. Overall, very good.
