Friendly, good music, good views of the estuary and good food. Can’t fault it. Even dog friendly. Would be a little awkward for someone in a wheelchair, but do-able and they have tables outside too anyway. Accessible loos. The sandwich was excellent and so was the coffee. Relaxed, good magazine selection too. Always friendly service. Loos are clean and accessible, good baby changing facilities. Will go back again. UPDATE: Have adapted well to COVID-19. You can still get ice cream or hot food at the hatch. More likely for people to order takeaway. You can then sit along the wall. It is always good to frequent local independent businesses. They are a part of the community as much as you are. It's a place to say a friendly hello, exchange some news and just have a chat. So much more needed in these more socially isolated days thanks to the global pandemic. This is the new normal now, so while you can order stuff online, don't forget to keep your local businesses alive. You'd really miss them when they're gone. Not just for the convenience, but for the quality and as I mentioned social aspect. The internet means you can get almost anything online, but you can't do the people watching or browse a counter and try something new. Or get the smell of something good you want to try. Let's hope these businesses survive. It is us to us fellow customers!

This is a great little restaurant / cafe and takeaway place located on directly on the sand at Chalkwell beach, a little bit further along the coast from Southend. They serve hot and cold drinks and snacks including ice cream tea and coffee etc from the takeaway counter and proper meals from the restaurant. We had takeaway coffees there early in the day and went back to the restaurant for a late lunch. The menu is pretty large for such a small place and also has a good number of veggie options considering how small this place is. This is the 2nd time that we have eaten in the restaurant and it was great both times. On this occasion I had the Fish and chips which was lovely piece of fish in a nice crisp batter which was clearly cooked in quality clean cooking oil. My better half had the haddock and cheese bubble with poached egg from the specials board which came with a generous side salad. This is a definite favourite. The food here is reasonably priced and the quality is excellent and the service is always warm friendly and efficient. I'd recommend this place to anyone if you are in the area.

Grabbed a coffee here whilst out walking. Flat white with 2 shots. I don’t normally do reviews but others have said how good the coffee is here. To be completely honest it was awful, weak and watered down with no crema layer on top and boiling hot so the beans tasted burnt as well. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by the amazing coffee I had in 4 weeks in OZ ? Just felt I needed to say something to counter act the amazing coffee reviews. Shame as the place looks quite nice and the staff were very friendly. When people are paying nearly £4 for a coffee they expect more than a weak boiling hot filter coffee....
